Title: Updating Engine and virus definitions - "The Package is broken"
Post by: George1 on September 10, 2011, 05:01:52 PM
I've tried to update the engine and virus definitions and received a message that stated: ... the package is broken."  Avast attempts to run the update for a second or two, then the error message pops up.

What can be done so I can get the updates?

Repair avast:
1. Control Panel - Add/Remove programs - avast!
2. Scroll down and click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.

If that doesn't resolve it, you may be asked to do a full update:
- avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download (http://www.avast.com/download-update) VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 31MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.

Note: Ignore the file name in the images of the page that is displayed after clicking the download link, they are for the main program, not for vpsupd.exe which will be downloaded.
