I wouldn't recommend doing so   :)    Run just Avast and as a backup use an online scanner like Housetrend or others listed here:  http://www.security-ops.tk/ (http://www.security-ops.tk/)       Running both together will cause you alot of grief  and conflicts  ..  ;(

Welcome to the forum trash.

Try the search function for Norton and avast!  Lots of reading there.

trash,

As much as I hate saying this since I am an avid Avast user, but you can run Norton and use Avast as a "backup" if you remove the resident scanner module.

What Technical means is that both cannot run resident at the same time.

However to be fair, Norton can run as the primary AV with Avast in the background dormant.

I will say that if you only use Avast as a manual scanner, you are losing some of the best benefits of the software.

If you wish a recommendation, then take Connie's.  She is right on the money!

Good luck.

trash..     As Techie says above,  it can be done  (its just  not recommended) and only if you do so as he explains.

I uninstalled Norton 6 months before my registration ran out on it.    It hogs your resources;   something Avast does not.    Ive been extremely impressed with Avast since installing it and do not regret for a moment uninstalling Norton from our machines.

Just a users endorsement trash  :)    I dont work for the company  :)

I adviced  :P
There are more incompatibilities than only the residents.
16-bit applications, VDD Registry keys, SP2 integration, email protection, proxy, firewall...

Yes, true....but for most situations, it is the resident scanner that causes the problems.   ;)
