I have the following problems:
After I have installed Avast!4Home, there are NO ICONS (no A, no I) in my systray-section!
Avast is still running and the scan-process works fine. But it only runs in the Taskbar!
If I exit Avast it´s completely gone from the desktop.
Now, I am afraid that I´m not real-time-protected-or that an intruder turned that feature off! - Could this be true?!
???
History:
I´ve installed Windows completely new.
Before I´ve installed Avast, I´ve had run NAV2004 for one day on my computer.
I deinstalled that nasty thing (I really HATE IT NOW >:( cause of millions of entrys in the system) completely (inclu the Reg-Files manually) and installed Avast again. - No icons at all.
Security-Center says, that Avast is active. So what´s up?!? Am I protected or not?!?
And what can I do to activate these Icons? - Cause I´ve read, that there are many options hidden there.
I´ve found no answers to my prob here and in the net.
@: ICONS are still activated in the task-bar-options.
My system:
WinXP_SP2, Ad-Watch running
Pleaze help me, cause I want a stable, secure system to work.

Get RejZor's AEC (http://www.excessive-software.tk/) and use the "taskbar" tweak in there.
OR
Try a repair of Avast.
(start > control panel > add/remove programs > avast > change/repair
OR
Updgrade to Avast 4.5

One of these should work.

Hello Eddy! ;)
Thxs a lot for the link! -
It was´nt Rejzors-Prog, but AVAST! EXTERNAL CONTROL helped PERFECTLY!
So you made me fell better, - more "secure" (Until the next evil unknown Worm :P)
Thanks for your fast help!
Regards, Marco

They Avast External Control (AEC) IS RejZor's prog ;)
-
;D Okidoki
You got me!
First I´ve loaded the "Adblock-Filter" and thought:
"What the hell should I do with this?!" -
Hey, have a nice Day! ...I go to sleep now! 8)
Bye!
-
Edit:
I like Avast more and more! - If it keeps my System healthy, for - lets say - 3-4 month, I´ll buy the Pro-Version.
Seems, there are no lamers around here in the forum answering to the Questions... :)
-
Keep in mind that having a anti virus application is not sufficient enough to completely protect a system from ALL malware ;)
Also use a firewall, and a scan on a regular base with Spybot s&d and Ad-Aware is very recommended.
And for the lamers. Occasionally you will see one here. But that is not different from real life. Luckely the majority of the people are decent here. :D
And there is a lot more than just questions, answers and help. Have a look at the off-topic forum. ;D

Yes, true.
Spybot S&D, Addaware, Adwatch and Sygate Firewall still installed!
(But thx for advice) :)
But I still have some little Problems with Avast:
1) How can I PERMANENTLY activate these "Main control" - Icons ?
Everytime I restart my System, they are gone again...
The Status Report reports the following:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT SUBSYSTEMS:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
On-Access Protection: Ready and running
iAVS Update Center: Ready and running
Update interval: Default (Every 4 hours)
VPS Update Mode: NONE
Program Update Mode: NONE
On-Access Display startup key: Not Detected <- !!!
Mail Protection Proxy startup key: Not Detected <-- !!!
How can I make Avast create these files?
Oh, another funny thing while install/deinstall-process of NAV/AVast was, that the script-blocking WAS active for the short time NAV-Files still existed... :D

Upgrade to Avast 4.5 (beta) and see if that solves the problem.
