Hi Folks
I'm new here. Yesterday I've installed Avast! 4.1 Pro and I have 2 questions about mails. I'm using TheBat 3.0.2.6 with the Avast-PlugIn. My incoming mails are filtered by K9. The outgoing mails are filtered by SMTP-Filter (Lab1.de). Questions:
incoming mails
How are marked incoming mails containing a virus?
outgoing mails
Actually the outgoing mails are sent via port 9025 to the smtp-filter and from her filtered via normal port 25 to the smpt-server. If I'd like to check the outgoing mails by avast! before smpt-filter, what and where I've what to change?
Thanks a lot for your advice.
Sincerely
Housi

Welcome housi:
How are marked incoming mails containing a virus?
You can add notes to the infected ones. You can configurate them as you want. At least into Internet Mail provider and MS Outlook plugin. I do not use The Bat plugin but I think it will be the same.
In the subject field of the mail you will see [avast! - INFECTED]

I think the best you can do is download the version 4.5 Beta because it uses a new mail detection that will work automatically. Please, set up your email account just as avast does not exists. It will detect the pop3/smpt/imap ports and scan your messages.

Can you make a try and see if it's ok?
About the processing sequence, this is by design.
In 4.1, it was like: mail client > avast > spam killer > mail server
In 4.5, it's like: mail client > spam killer > avast > mail server
I don't know more to help you. Specially the outbound sequence. :-\

Hi
Thanks for answering. I did install the 4.5 beta. Before, I was running the german version, and it seems, that the english beta does not accept the key for the german version. So I make a new install of my 4.1-German-Version.

Well, in fact different languages could bring problems.
Can you try the official realease of 4.5 next Saturday (13th of November).

If the english version is working, go to the control panel > add/remove programs > Avast > change/repair > add the German language. See if that works
-
Does not work!
-
What exactly doesn't work?
The keys are not language-specific - you can use your key for any language version (there is nothing like "key for german version"). You can install as many languages as you like...

Hi Igor
I did it once more - and now it's gone. I've active now the German Version 4.5 Professional. I don't know why the first time it does not work.
As you can read above, I'm working with TheBat! as mail-client. Is the Avast-PlugIn in TB! still necessary?
Sincerely

Hi Housi, plugin for The Bat! has one big advantage: cryptic communication. Internet Mail Provider doesn't support such kind of communication.

avast does not have a plugin for Thunderbird.
In TB you must use Internet Mail provider 8)
