Title: Beta Verison
Post by: njguy99007 on November 10, 2004, 01:34:18 PM
I have a question, when the new Beta version comes out on Saturday the 13th, will Avast automatically install it.
If it is not Auto installed, what should we do to get it, i have been using Avast now for almost a year and have to say i love it.

The beta version already is out since 23 october.
Saterday is the day that Avast 4.5 final is sheduled for release.

And yes, update will automaticly take place.

It depends on your settings. If you have "Auto" for program updates, it will. Otherwise, just go to the program menu (or use the popup menu from the avast! tray icon) and select Updating -> Program Update.

I presume the Advise-when-available option (my setting for program updates, and I think still the default for them) will still do its thing properly?

Will our settings be saved or will we have to re-configure everything?

As far as I know, the release of 4.5 final is still sheduled for Saterday and it will be on their website. 4.5 beta was only released to the users of this forum, that's why there is nothing on their website about it.

Sorry, Saturday (after Friday afternoon or Saturday morning).
So, Sunday will be for sure  8)

Well, Guys ---
I hope it will be Saturday; I have already put it on a forum since someone asked about Avast! When they do that, I always tell them how good it is, how it always catches the repeated virus attack attempts in emails and how it updates so frequently.  8)

I'm surprised, we're on 4.5.514 now  :o

Keep in mind that because of their location, Alwil is several hours ahead of the majority of the rest of us -- GMT + 2 or 3 vaguely rings a bell.  And I assume they're talking about something resembling normal work hours their time.

Whatever "normal" is there, of course -- many of us are convinced that Pavel and Vlk probably both work around the clock and take turns catching brief cat-naps.  ;)

Anyway, allowing for time-zone differences, I'd guess that Saturday release from them means that those of us in the Western Hemisphere will see it sometime late Saturday or early Sunday our time.

Hihihi, in fact Pavel is traveling  8)
Vlk, well, he does not work at night very often.
Igor too.
pk, where is he?  ;D

Technical, you are privileged!
I still am on 4.1.501  --- and this is only Wednesday, after all --- I would say:"Are you sure?", but since you are Technical, I won't say that.

I'm right this time  ;D
4.5.514 is the new beta version. It's very stable as all others builts of 4.5 version.  8)

I suspected you were talking about the beta version; I'm glad it is very stable; that means the real thing will also be stable.

Sure. I suggest you go to the new forum board for version 4.5 Beta.
There you will find some good explanations of the new features, etc.
You can read with patience and be ready for it on Saturday...  8)

OK, I was just going to skip reading all that stuff about the problems with the beta version, but since you suggested that I should do it, I will.

I have to tell you I have had a good laugh; the topic subject is misspelled, and every time I write a reply I check my spelling. The spell checker starts with the subject, and every time I change it to "version", but one time I was in a hurry and agreed to change it to what spell checker suggested, which happened to be "venison".

Guess your spell checker knew what it was doing since avast! can be considered a poison for all those viruses. ;D

hello all,
twice today I have had the avast flag come up to tell me of new update, click to install.
I have tried this on both occasions but failed ( Package Broken.)
Just wondering if this is something to do with installing beta previously as I had a few problems then.
When the release 4.5 version is out can this be downloaded to update the beta version.

Please help us help you.
What version of Avast! are you using
What vps version?
What OS?
What exactly is the error message? (If you are getting one.)
The path and filename is of great help.
etc. etc.
The more info you supply, the easier it is for us to solve your problem.
If this is avast! 4.5 beta related please post your question in the appropriate Forum. Take a look in here:

Most probably it's your firewall which is blocking avast to update.
Right now, 4.5.514 and 0446-2.
So you should allow the 'new' avast version to connect.

Hello Technical,
I just tried update again with firewall set to allow all with same result.
You may remember my posts yesterday at the start of which you responded,
regarding problems installing 4.5 beta. Later Igor helped and got it running.
I think probably it was me at fault.
In these cicumstances would it be better if I reinstalled 4.1 (I have this on disk) and then allow the update to 4.5 when the release version is out.
I know it is expected at the weekend.
        Thanks for responding.

Get the avast uninstall utility from Alwil and use it. Reboot then re-install avast! 4.1 reboot. Update and you'll prob. have to update one more time. At that point, you can either try to install 4.5 beta again or wait till Sat. when the Official 4.5 version is released. Hope that helps.
Check the link in my signature for the  avast! uninstall program.

Hi bob3160,
I have removed avast 4.5 with the utility, rebooted and updated.
I now have 4.1.501 with VPS 0446-2.
I have scanned and tested email and all seems ok.
I did see that during install that an error showed I believe it was 404.
Hope it will be ok.re.that error.
I have decided to wait until Saturday for the release version of 4.5.
If you have any comments re. the error I would be interested to know.
    Many thanks for your help,
    Best Wishes.    Mal

I have decided to wait until Saturday for the release version of 4.5.

Cool. It won't harm to wait.
But it will be better if you learn how to set your 4.5 version.
Version 4.5 uses a new mail detection that will work automatically.
You should set up your email account just as avast does not exists.
It will detect the pop3/smpt/imap ports and scan your messages.

I'm glad avast! is working again. If your e-mail is now being scanned properly, avast! will automatically make all changes back to the original ISP settings when the conversion occurs.
The 404 error you mentioned sounds like something you experienced while on the INTERNET. I don't think it has anything to do with avast!.
