Title: Last weekends false positve? residual effects?
Post by: three west on October 02, 2011, 07:48:20 PM

So like many others I spend far too much of my day last Sunday trying to clean up the mess made by the alleged false positive detection.

After I was finally smart enough to come here, I found the SFC /Scannow solution and was fully operational in what, like 15 minutes or less?

Imagine my surprise when my wife comes to tell me that the desktop locked up this morning.  Sure enough, I rebooted the machine and it was dreadfully slow to boot.  Upon reaching the desktop I got a warning from avast saying the upate failed.  The action center reports that the anti-virus is turned off.  I try to turn it on, say I trust it, but the warning remains.  This isn't quite like last weekend though after the boot scan when almost no programs would run, this time the computer seems to be more functional.
Unlike last weekend, this time I try SFC /Scannow first, but it runs clean.  I ran malwarebytes and it also came up clean.  I ran a quick avast scan and it came up clean.
I rebooted again, got a "verify" warning on the RAID array, the machine was much quicker to boot this time.
Avast can now check for updates, but the action center still reports that it is OFF.

I couldn't help but notice that looking at the avast stats show exactly 1 virus found, and it was exactly 1 year ago today.  Perhaps thats a complete fluke, but the timing was striking.

Anybody else having issues?
I've got better things to do on Sunday!

Probably just a small glitch in the system happened, usually a repair of avast and a reboot fix any issues.
