Title: Avast gone wrong after some update
Post by: Shalft on November 13, 2004, 10:57:19 AM
Hi,

Just 10 minutes ago, I got a dialog asking if I wanted to restart because there was an update (not sure if it was software update or virus db update). I choose to restart the computer. After window loaded an error came up (see attached image).

Can someone tell me what is wrong?

Edit: well.. can't seem to display the image so i'll try to describe the error.

dialog title bar says "ashDisp.exe - Application Error",
then the content of the error is "The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005). Click OK to terminate the application.",
with the OK button.

Any idea?

What version number does avast show, exactly? (please see the About box). Is it 4.5.518 or 4.5.523?

You can try doing a "repair" of avast installation. Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Avast antivirus -> Change/Remove -> Repair.

thanks
Vlk

Does the image is within the specifications as mentioned just under the attacht bar?

Please do not swear on this board. It is a "family" board and not everyone likes swearing.

We do help. But have a little patience. Almost all of us are just like you, a user of Avast and we do have others to do. Helping here is something most of us do voluntary.

Have you tried Vlk's suggestion? Is the problem solved?
