Title: Avast Blocking Firefox
Post by: mmthornton78 on October 19, 2011, 03:49:48 AM
Hey, Avast has started blocking Firefox.  The report I get says
C\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components\1517409.dll  is infected with Win32:Malware-gen

I have ran full scan and boot time scan, the file has been moved to the chest but seems to be replicating.  Now avast is continuously deleting said dll.  Please help and advise what I need to do.  I have also ram mbam and nothing was found using it.  Thanks

How can I do this?  When I search the directory i cannot find the file.  I have settings set to show hidden and system files, but cannot see it.  Thanks

@ mmthornton78
Send the sample to avast as a possible False Positive:
Open the chest and right click on the file and select 'Submit to virus lab...' complete the form and submit, the file will be uploaded during the next update.

@@@@
You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner (http://www.virustotal.com/) and report the findings here, post the URL in the Address bar of the VT results page. You can't do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.

Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive. Now exclude that folder in the File System Shield, Expert Settings, Exclusions, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect\*
That will stop the File System Shield scanning any file you put in that folder.

You can't find it because it is in the chest, as mentioned you would have to extract it from the chest (not restore) in the same way as your submission, from within the chest.
