It solves most (if not all) of the issues discussed here so far:
- fixed smtp/pop transparent mail scanning in conjunction with ZoneAlarm
- updated avast installations now listen on the same ports as they did in 4.1 (that is, 25/110/143 instead of 12025/12110/12143 as in 4.5.418)
- fixed random crashes in aswTdi.sys
- fixed compatibility problems with Windows NT4
and a couple of other minor things.
I hope this build will be useful :)
Now let's have some sleep - it's almost 3am here ;D
Cheers

Great job. Have a good nights rest. You (and they others) deserved it.

Vlk, you are the man! I seriously know of no other AV provider that has the standards that Avast boasts!

I told you few months ago...
THERE IS NO ANTIVIRUS like avast!
There is no software house like ALWIL SOFTWARE !!!
And I really mean it...
Great work Vlk and all Alwil members. Thumbs up !
-
Vlk, to test the new build, I imaged back to before I installed Avast 4.5. I let Avast update itself to 4.5 , and e-mail scanning with Zone alarm active works right out of the box!!
Thanks!

well, I had a minor glitch again...
it updated, I rebooted, then when I checked the on-access protection control menu, it showed once again that on internet mail that it was waiting for a sub system to start. so I shut my computer down for about 10 minutes, and now it is working fine.
when it was updating, once again ZA free and Prevx gave me warnings and I had to allow...
I wonder if it's ZA and Prevx or that I just needed to shut down again? Wouldn't the reboot have taken care of it?

Well I have just removed the old one that version 4.5.518, Now I want to download version 4.5.523. Where can I download it from?
Thanx,
Alan

There is no need to remove Avast if there is a newer version. Updating will take care of it. And you can ofcourse download the latest version from the renewed website.
-
A. Jones, if your OS is like mine, it is already updated and all you need to do is answer "Allow" to your firewall (mine is free ZA) and reboot . :)
Nice! :)
Well, it looks like you didn't wait for an answer!
-
thanks for the update
-
:'( Looks like I am the unlucky one. I deleted the old one, installed the old version, rebooted, updated to 4.5.523, rebooted, started OK, BUt not able to start still the same error
Scan completed with error
87 = Parameter incorrrect
and AVAST !: the AAVM detected the RPC error.
Beats me.
Should i remove this and download from the download site again.
Thanks All,
Alan

Thanks for the 523-update
housi :)

Everything works perfectly. Great! (And believe me, I have tried a lot of anti-viruses and can't say that for anyone else!)
-
Once again awesome job.......
Im proud of you guys.....

Alan, I have the impression that somewhat is preventing from starting correctly on your system. Namely, my bet would be somehow strange set security settings on files/registry keys?
Haven't you change access control lists for those objects?
Also, please check out the avast log viewer. Does it have any entries in the Error or Warning category?
Thanks

Do you have any other antivirus software?
-
Vlk, hope you got some rest!
When I checked the error log for Saturday's update
this is what shows:
11/13/2004 7:11:44 AM
NT Authority\System 1676 AAVM Initialization Error:
unhandled exception...
As I stated before, I had to shut down my system before my internet mail showed it was running--at first it showed it was waiting for a subsystem to start.
I did reboot as requested, but ended up shutting completely down for awhile.
This may not be of help to you, but I still wanted to let you know what mine said (just in case it would help)

Hi CoJo,
I'm a bit confused here - was this a one time error (and the shutdown/reboot solved it) or is it something that troubles you all the time?
BTW you wake at 7 on Saturdays? ;)
Cheers

It happened both times, Vlk. Saturday when the update was released, and again last night. Rebooting did not solve the problem--I had to shut down the computer completely for the mail scanner to show it was working.
It's a mystery to me why I would have to shut down instead of the reboot being enough.
I'm up by 6:00 every morning! If I sleep past then, I feel like half the day is gone ;D

I cannot view the Avast Log Viewer Nothing comes up, there is this AVST icon with small not on sign, and it brings up a notice stating
AVAST!: AAVM system detected RPC Error!
Operation cannot be performed.
The Event Viewer from Admin tools states the follwing.
AAVM - initialization error: AavmStart: avworkInitialize failed, 00000057.
aswSplash - Program error description: 87 = The parameter is
incorrect.
I notice a few others have similar problem, I had no problem getting this to work on another computer without SP2.
I dontunderstand exactly what you mean by settings on registry keys, /I have ZA, I used registry cleaner upon Avast removal.
Can I download new version, and load it? Could U explain clearly about security settings?
Thanx

Hi AJones, please stay in one thread only. It's hard to manage same issues discussed in multiple threads.
Please see the latest considerations here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=8736
Thanks
