Hello
As a satisfied Avast! Pro - User I've following question:
I was a KAV Pro-User and now I'v changed to Avast! 1 week ago.
Kaspersky does update the virus-DB approximately all 3-6 hours. Avast! does update in much more time. E.g. the VPS 446-2 has a compilation date 11.11.04, i.e. is 4 days old. Now my question. Do I have a very good scanner but a VPS often not up-to-date?
Sincerely
housi

That's a good question housi...
I've noticed the VDB is still dated 11.11.04 also.
I'm eagerly awaiting an update to see if Automatic Updates is working.
(I believe there is a problem with it).
Eventually, I can't stand it anymore and check manually. (Which works fine by the way).
Still, just checked a minute ago and it said my 11-11-04 DB was "already up to date".
When I uses Avast a year or so ago it seems there were updates sometimes even more than once a day.
Maybe the Virus writers are on vacation? ;D

Hey Housi,
It's radicalb21. First let me welcome you to the forum. To answer your question avast is updated twice a week and as needed. If you look at this link :

Also since you are a pro user look at this link about PUSH Updates. Here is that link :
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_professional.html
I hope this helps. You are very well protected with avast antivirus. Support is very good from both the alwil staff and other users of this program.

Hi radicalb21
Thanks for answering. Yes I own the Pro-Version and yes the automated update is working fine. :)
But my real question is not answered. Why does respectively can Kaspersky update her virus-DB 2-3 times a day and avast! twice a week? Has Kaspersky knowledge over new virus prior to Avast!

That's not about knowledge - most of the viruses/trojans we (and Kaspersky) receive are not urgent samples. I don't think there is any need to do the update every 3 hours for such malware. Of course in the case of any epidemy we are ready to release the new update within minutes ;)
