I was able to run a Boot-Time scan on 10/19/11 but when I tried yesterday...no go.
I click on 'SCHEDULE NOW' and 'Restart computer' shows. However, when I click on Restart computer nothing happens. When I manually reboot, Boot-Time scan does not run.
Obviously I've tried several times before coming here.
My Avast was purchased on 10/19/11 Product SKU: ISV6011Y
Product Name: avast! Internet Security - 1 PC, 1 year
H-E-L-P appreciated !! ;D

try avast repair and reboot
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
did that fix it ?

Pondus,
I did as you instructed plus updating the program. Still does not work. Did the repair and manual re-boot twice just to be sure.
The Avast India Indians refuse technical assistance unless I allow them to take control of my computer. Will be a very warm January day in Norway when I allow that to happen !!
Also emailed for support on Thursday but received no reply.
Where should I turn for support ????? Any other ideas ??

Just a couple of comments. After repair, or after installation anew, you should reboot IMMEDIATELY before testing anything else, including configurations, scanning or updates.
ONLY if the clean re-installation doesn't solve the problem (which, if performed correctly, it should), you could use the web contact form:
http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles (http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles).
May I ask, before Avast, which security tools were you using?
A partial list of specific removal utilities for many security tools is located at http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/ (http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/), so cleaning up remnants of previous security tools may solve conflicts too.

Here are the instructions that I send out for removing 3rd Party AV's
You'll notice that they come directly from Avast. :)

I was using Malwarebytes.
That's the ONLY one you were using before? No other firewall and/or antivirus that may need to be also "cleaned" with the respective removal utility?
