Title: Installed avast in Windows 8 environment, Windows won't start now
Post by: kimbeasley on October 29, 2011, 04:07:53 AM
I installed avast on in my WIndows 8 environment before I realized that it would conflict. After installation, I restarted the computer and now Windows will not start up. Is there a solution for removing avast at the system prompt for Windows 8? Thanks!

The current Windows 8 "releases" won't allow you to use AV tools (except maybe MSE).

Try rebooting into Windows Safe Mode to uninstall it (I don't even know if it has one Windows Safe Mode or if future releases will have it).

Avast removal utility:http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility).

Yes this is a Microsoft induced issue as it has coding embedded to block most AVs in the preview version (a notable exception MSE, no big surprise there then):

Windows 8 Preview builds - compatibility, they are currently blocking installations, see, topic and this post in particular:
not yet, because DP 8102 doesn't allow avast component to load itself - they block us, today I'll speak with MS devs here at build conference how we can fix it; unfortunately, you will have to wait for the official win8 beta, because they have to remove blocking from their code
