Title: Dawn of War Potentially Unsafe?
Post by: NickNZ on November 04, 2011, 11:45:16 PM
Hi there,

Just looking for a little clarification/reassurance.  I installed Dawn of War on my PC and it runs off the CD. When I ran it for the first time it Avast! popped up and recommended I open it in the sandbox.  Is there any need to be worried?

I run Win7 64-bit Home Premium, Avast! Internet Security and install all my games to a separate partition on my HDD.  The Avast! warning tells me that the file W40k.exe is being opened by AutoPlay.exe (the disk in the DVD drive).  I am assuming that I'm getting the warning because the CD is trying to open a file in the drive where I store my games.  Is this correct?

Hi NickNZ

Dawn of war game file w40k.exe is a not digitally signed one. So avast is detecting that file as some suspicious one. Hence avast is prompting to open in sandbox.

So its better to open it in sand box. Otherwise please try to load the game in silent gaming mode without any popups

For assurance you can upload that file to www.virustotal.com

Have a wonderful day

Good Karma! :)

Good karma!

Hi iYogisolutions1,

Thanks for your help.  The file not being digitally signed must be it because I installed Warcraft III about ten minutes ago and got the same message.  I've told it to load normally and save my answer because in both instances I trust the source it's coming from :)
