Title: Can't use Avast Home Edition 4...Error Reports
Post by: Jesmoose on November 16, 2004, 04:17:35 PM
Just dowloaded and installed Avast!, because AVG's Free Edition is going down on Dec. 31. According to Langa list, (which I just subscribed to to learn more about computers, as well as ZDNet, because I'm a computerMoron except for PSP Graphics, my scanner and a good camera) AVG is going to eventually be coming out with a free program again, but Fred Langa doesn't know how good it wwill be

Uninstalled AVG.
Rebooted Computer.
Dowloaded and Installed Avast! 4 Free Home Edition.
Automatic Reboot of Computer
Registered with Avast! and entered key code.

When setting up, was not able to fill in the field "Create Object", I was given no option and didn't have the vaguest Idea of what to even put there could I have.

My email program is Eudora, which I don't ever use.
I use Yahoo! Email....it's safer, all attachments are already scanned by Noerton and all the crap mail gets dumped itno a bulk folder.)

When I try to open Avast! I get 3 Error Messages.

1. Unknown Error
Storage cannot be created for the "Splash" Task.

Click OKAY then

2. Unknown Error
Configuration is not loaded properly!
(Error: dbs Create Object)

Click OKAY again, then

3. Unknown Error
Programs cannot save parameters to the storage!
(Error: dbs Create Object)

Can any one help me???
*whimper, sigh, sniffle, whimper*

I absolutely NEED a free progaram, because I'm on SSI Disability, and any money left over after rent expenses has to go for OTC meds, supplements and anything else Medicaid refuses to pay for because I have numerous health problems.....some very serious, some just....beyond annoying.

Thanks, Good People!

Change ODBC to XML in avast4.ini

does this solves the problem?

Open avast4.ini with notepad
Scroll down to a line that shows > Database=ODBC
Change ODBC to XML
Close the file and save the changes.
