Title: Avast and MSN Remote Assistance
Post by: Deb on November 16, 2004, 06:42:05 PM
Hi,

I need to know if Avast might prevent me connecting with another computer via MSN Messengers Remote Assistance feature?

I used to be able to connect but now I can't.  I can't say for sure when the problem started so I can't say for sure Avast might be preventing this.  But since the problem is prevelant now that I'm using Avast I'm checking into all possibilities.

Is there some setting I can check to enable or disable that would allow me to possibly connect or to at least test?  Both computers in question are on XP.

Thanks,
Deb

Test:
1. Stop the avast antivirus service (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services)
2. See if you have any provider running (shouldn't have...). The avast icon will have a red cross.
3. Test MSN
4. If ok, restart the avast antivirus service  ;D
5. If not, uninstall avast and test MSN again  8)

I bet on the firewall anyway (both Windows Internal one and third party).
