Title: Definition Update Problem (from version 111108-2)
Post by: BootLoader on November 09, 2011, 10:33:49 AM
I have virus definitions 111108-1. Today when i try to Update avast it shows latest virus definition 111109-0. In update-time avast downloads the file vps_32-631.vpx gets failed/connection terminated and retrying but update not completed. My internet connection is slow 10kBps. I think the file 'vps_32-631.vpx' is in large size. Thus update failed. Plz split the file into small size or give a special virus definitions update after 111108-1 to Latest. I have use avast! internet security v6.0.1289 with definitions 111108-1 on Windows XP SP3 x86.

Thank You.

Well the updates are only in the KB's anyway which is very small so i cant see avast splitting the updates just for you, avast could be having a server issue over your way so try again later.
You can also try a repair via remove programs and reboot.

I live in India, West Bengal and even update unsuccessful. Can I get latest defination updates through "http://www.avast.com/download-update" with file "http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/vpsupd.exe." Is this update solve my problem?
Is this setup file "vpsupd.exe" regularly updated?

Yes. But the automatic update should work ???
Please, upload (attach) the avast log:
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\Setup.log
or C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log

If the file is too big for the forum, post the last 400-500 lines of it.

If you really want to install such a version, please uninstall the current version first.
Well, your avast is updated and you're trying to install an old manual update.

Any firewall? Any other security program installed? Parental control?
Try to use "No proxy" into avast update settings.

no other firewall, no proxy or security program installed. I am triying to update avast IS through v6.0.1203 if any core file or others get corrupted. My internet connection is very slow 10kBps (mobile 2G internet) and I cannot download new setup file more times. If I download setup file "vpsupd.exe" now from http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/vpsupd.exe which actual virus definitions version in it plz tell me.

The main problem is avast updates automatically and gets failed and retrying. Avast is busy to update and I get slow speed to surf webpages.

Set "No proxy" instead of automatic detection.

hi.. i am also facing the same problems.. avast unable to update to virus definitions 111109-0..keeps on showing downloading file:vps_32-632.vpx. and after sometime shows connection terminated even though am still connectd to the internet..am using windows 7 and the resource monitor shows avast.setup eating up most of my bandwidth under the network tab even while it is not updating. i tried reinstalling.. but still no luck.. cud there be a problem with their servers?

Please reboot after any (re)installation or any repair of Avast.

Downloading the full update as you asked is not a solution for your case. The normal update is between 10 and 300 KB, and the full update you asked for is 40MB.

A repair and reboot solves the problem in most cases. A server problem is also a possibility, but then you should wait several hours and try again to be sure.

Remember to reboot (it is needed in most cases to show the correct definitions update with cases of synchronization problems like yours). Most probably tomorrow you will discover that this is just a one-time simple "glitch".

Hi, my update problem is fixed. I have downloaded the virus definitions update file "vpsupd.exe"(about 44MB) from http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/vpsupd.exe and reboot my PC. Now I have definitions version 111109-0 without internet connection. Then I connect the internet and avast successfully updated with latest virus definitions version 111109-1 at posting time (12:10AM 10th NOV,2011 Indian Standard Time).

Thanks to all avast! Members, Modifiers,Experts.

I have tried over 24 hours but avast "vpsupd.exe" file server not updated definitions 111109-0. I have downloaded "vpsupd.exe" file in morning but it has definitions 111108-0. The time and bandwidth wasted. Few minutes ago again I have downloaded "vpsupd.exe" file it has definitions 111109-0 and update successfully works.
You must try this method. Otherwise Update failed, terminated, retrying.

Note:- Download "vpsupd.exe" at a time. Don't Resume. It Updates several times with one permanent download link.

Stop the avast.setup, if you can from task manager, if not reboot that would stop it. It would however, be starting shortly after boot. If that doesn't get the update, set the virus definitions update to manual and reboot, now you shouldn't have the avast.setup trying to update and you should be able to download the vpsupd.exe.
