HI,
I check the boxes for scan and notes in e-mail(not infected by a virus) in incoming mail to be able to see if my e-mail is scan but i have nothing. I use OE, windows xp sp2, windows firewall.
Any ideas ?
thanks in advance

Sometimes, just a boot solve this...
Some HTML files does not match the criteria to be a note added. But, to be sure about scanning, can you see in the headers of the messages (Right click the message, choose Properties and Details), for instance:
X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0XXX-X, XX/XX/2004), Inbound message
X-Antivirus-Status: Clean

I've rebooted a lot of time but I got the same result. I looked in properties, detail and nothing inside related to the scan. I used the Avast french version.
Thank for your help

So, you're not protected... :'(
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

I check the boxes for scan and notes in e-mail(
In what provider did you checked them?
-
In internet e-mail (incoming mail only checked-both boxes). I use outlook express.
I downloaded the zip file with the 2 DLLs but i got the same result. (stopped the service, overwrites file, restart the service)...
I attached a copy of my avast4.ini (I renammed it to be able to send it here). I don't know if it is correct because at end (after ShowResults=0) i see another 0 with 3 carriage return (the sign) ??? It seems incompleted. The way i have installed avast is: I donwloaded the version 4.5 directly and i never received any errors during the installation.
Thanks for your help

Try this:
1] Delete the 127.0.0.1 (and the port) numbers from the following lines
PopListen=127.0.0.1:110
SmtpListen=127.0.0.1:25
ImapListen=127.0.0.1:143
2] Remove the pop and smtp server from these lines
DefaultPopServer=pophm.sympatico.ca
DefaultSmtpServer=smtphm.sympatico.ca
3] Setup you email account in OE as if Avast isn't there.(same as instructed by your email provider)
4] Reboot and try the mail.

What is the status of the provider? Active or Waiting for a Subsystem to Start?
Thanks

the internet e-mail provider is active
-
So to sum up:
- the provider is active
- AutoRedirect in avast4.ini is either missing or set to 1 (the default value)
- mail traffic works without problems, but no scanning takes place?
- there's no extra tray icon when sending/receiving emails?
Thanks
Vlk

AutoRedirect is set to 1, for rest of your previous e-mail you're right.
Thanks

Is your email server using the standard port numbers (25 for SMTP, 110 for POP3)?
-
Good point her. my provider(bell) use port 25 for SMTP and 995 for POP with a secure SSL.
Thanks

SSL connections are out of question for avast. They are simply not supported. :-\
-
What do you mean by out of question ? Is it the reason why my incoming e-amail are not scanned ? Is it samething in the Pro version ? Any plans for the future to support it ?
Thanks
-
SSL connections are simply not supported (in both avast Home and Pro) - they have never been.
There are some technical reasons for this - because the avast mail scanner operates more or less as a man-in-the-middle, something that SSL's main purpose is to avoid.
I'm not saying it's impossible though - it's just not supported at the moment...
Thanks

I think the reason for not scanning incoming mail should be other than this but I'm not sure. What I can read is that SSL in not supported in Pro version and will not in a near future. Out of question means, if I'm not wrong, out of their plans 8)
