I am keeping getting "avasts!: Connection timeout" message . Please see the attached screenshot for details. I have avast set connection timeout 300 seconds which I think is plenty. What is causing this? What adjusments do I need to make?
Please see my signature for software setup. Thanks!

How do you connect the Internet?
Is there any file attached to that mail?
Which is the email account timeout (Advanced tab of the email account properties) ?

;D
upgrade to 4.5.523 and let us know if the problem is solved.

I will pay attention to if this resurface. I am using the latest version/build already as in my signature.
I am an ADSL line. Perhaps because the line was disconnected somehow...I will monitor if this happens again as I said. ;)
EDIT:
Q: How do you connect the Internet?
A: ADSL
Q: Is there any file attached to that mail?
A: No.
Q: Which is the email account timeout (Advanced tab of the email account properties) ?
A: 300 seconds

4.1.501 is not the latest. 4.5.523 is. So either you don't have the latest build or you need to adjust your signature.
And please answer Technical's questions.

My apology. I wrote my reply in a hurry. :-[ I just edited my signature and answered Technical's questions. Please let me know if there is still anything missing.

So you're using both timeouts as 300 seconds at ADSL... Ok.
If you disable the smtp scanning into avast settings, will it help in anyway?
You can disable it deeper following this: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=7051;start=msg58367#msg58367
Can you try?

Did you change the timeout in both your email client as well as in avast4.ini?
What email client are you using?
What are the settings for the smtp?
Does it require authentication?
-
Did you change the timeout in both your email client as well as in avast4.ini?
No not both, the change was made only in avast4.ini. 300 seconds set in avast.ini, while 60 seconds for Outlook Express.
What email client are you using?
Microsoft Outlook Express 6 SP2
What are the settings for the smtp? Does it require authentication?
SMTP with server authentication

Thanks a lot for the almost immediate help, Technical and Eddy :)

Set both OE and Avast4.ini to a 600 second timeout and try again.
If it doesn't solve it, please check out THIS THREAD (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=8777;start=msg72644#msg72644).
Does it solve it for you as well?

Is this only a problem with outbound mail? Or inbound mail as well?
thanks

Maybe you can find a way to workaround it...
-
Wow so many people helping :)
I set timeout 120 seconds for both Outlook Express (OE) and avast4.ini. I am having my OE running for a couple of hours so far, and everything seems is OK. I will try workaround in those threads, if the problem comes up agains. Again thanks!!!

Inbound, I believe, since the problem occurred while Outlook Express was rountine checking for emails. Outlook Express was set to check for emails in every 8 minuts...I just sent a couple of emais, everything went OK.
