We have just found that the translation of one item is missing in avast! - in particular the message announcing a network attack. Another update should be released shortly... do you think you can translate this one line into your language (if your language happens to be one of the ones supported by avast! - and it's not English or Czech)? Thanks!
The text is:
Network Shield: blocked "%s" - attack from %d.%d.%d.%d:%d/%s
(i.e. is actually just the 3 words - blocked, attack from ;))
The format specifiers %s and %addr% will be replaced by the attack name and address during the runtime - so a real message could be e.g.
Network Shield: blocked "DCOM Exploit" - attack from 62.245.114.75:135/tcp
-
In Portuguese:
blocked: bloqueado
attack from: atacado por
I suggest "%s" in a different order:
Proteção de Rede: "%s" bloqueado - atacado por %d.%d.%d.%d:%d/%s
-
In German:
blocked: blockiert
attack from: attackiert von
e.g.:
Network Shield: blocked "DCOM Exploit" - attack from 62.245.114.75:135/tcp
in german:
Netzwerk Schutz: blockiert "DCOM Exploit" - attackiert von 62.245.114.75:135/tcp
-
In Dutch:
Netwerk schild: Geblokkeerd "%os" - aanval vanaf %d.%d.%d.%d:%d/%s

Hi, i am an italian boy.
I use Avast4 home edition, and it's very good.
There is a little bug of translation in italian:
In the tip displayed when you move the mouse over the A icon in the task bar, you can read:
"Scansione all'avvio di avast: 4 providers sul totale, 3 in cors".
There isn't the final "o".
I suggest a string like this:
"avast! antivirus: 4 totali, 3 attivi".
I tried to Edit the file "lang.dll", but on the next update, avast reset the file to the original version.
Thanks.

Thanks so far!
roby811, could you please help me translate the line stated in the first post here?
As for the on-access scanner message - you are right, it's clipped. The size is limited to 64 characters and this one is longer. However, the suggested text seems to be too brief to me... I'd like to keep the "On-access scanner" part there, I think it's quite an important information. If just 2 letters could be left out somewhere... it would fit.
-
ok,
the message can be translated as:
"Protezione di Rete: bloccato "%s" - attacco da %d.%d.%d.%d:%d/%s".
For the on-access scanner tip, i suggest:
"Avast4! Protezione in tempo reale: 4 servizi totali, 3 attivi".
or
"Avast4! Protezione realt-time: 4 servizi totali, 3 attivi".
or
similar
What you think?
-
there is a method to change the lang.dll file, without that the system reset all?
thanks
-
Thanks,
I'm afraid it's not possible to modify lang.dll. Even if you do, it will soon be replaced by the original one.
-
the language bug will be resolved on the next release?
thanks!
-
Yes, it will be.

Igor, I found two dialogs that do not fit into their notification windows.
As I do not install (fresh) avast very ofter, I miss them.
The XP ballon just after installation and the same for VRDB explanation (first running).
Right now, I don't have Passolo 4 anymore. Hope you can wait these corrections and send me a Passolo 5 file.
-
Igor, If Lazaro allows me, I'll say that the Spanish version for the specific part of the sentence will be exactly as the same as in Portuguese ;)
-
Ah, you are right, they are too long.
Well, another nice feature of Passolo 5 is that limit on the length of certain items can be imposed; so this kind of problems will hopefully go away.

Please, do it for notification windows ;)
What about the tool tips, are any other update?

Hi
In french It could be :
Bouclier réseau : %s bloqué - Attaque de %d.%d.%d.%d:%d/%s
Hope it's not too late

Italian's definitely not my native tongue -- but what about abbreviating "servizi" to "serv."? That would give you your 2 characters, just barely, if it doesn't totally change the meaning.
Best,
Mike

Blocked "DCOM Exploit" - attack from 62.245.114.75:135/tcp
in Finnish:
Estetty "DCOM Exploit" - hyökkäys osoitteesta 62.245.114.75:135/tcp
-
Network Shield: blocked "%s" - attack from %d.%d.%d.%d:%d/%s
Since I can't see Polish translation (P.Wawrzyszkois busy or what? :D), in attachement is my wersion. (Seems like I can't post here non-english characters)

In German:
blocked: blockiert
attack from: attackiert von
"attack from" would be rather: "Angriff von"
And generally smoother:
Netzwerk-Schutz: "DCOM Exploit" abgewehrt - Angriff von 62.245.114.75:135/tcp
oder
Netzwerk-Schutz: "DCOM Exploit" blockiert - Angriff von 62.245.114.75:135/tcp
;)

Hello!
In Polish:
The text is:
Network Shield: blocked "%s" - attack from %d.%d.%d.%d:%d/%s
(i.e. is actually just the 3 words - blocked, attack from ;))
Only three? :) Shoudn't we translate also "Network Shield" which is somewhere else (in Polish) translated (correctly!) as "Tarcza sieciowa"?
blocked - zablokowano,
attack - atak,
from - z.
The format specifiers %s and %addr% will be replaced by the attack name and address during the runtime - so a real message could be e.g.
Network Shield: blocked "DCOM Exploit" - attack from 62.245.114.75:135/tcp
Tarcza sieciowa: Zablokowano "DCOM Exploit" - atak z 62.245.114.75:135/tcp
Remeber! To use Capital letter after : sign in Polish in such a construction...
I'm thinking if you could more complexly separate these variables, so the message would be (in Polish or in all translations) more simple to understand by a newbie user?
For example:
Tarcza sieciowa: Zablokowano atak typu "%s" z adresu %d.%d.%d.%d, na porcie %d, w protokole %s
Which would correspond to:
Network Shield: blocked attack type of "%s" from address %d.%d.%d.%d, on port %d, in protocol %s
But that is just a suggestion.
Regards!
Tom

Thanks to all!
Trejder, you are right, the words "Network Shield" should be translated too, of course - but I can copy them from other (already translated) parts ;)
As for the longer description: while it may be "nicer", it's also longer... and when it keeps appearing in the bottom part of your screen, it may get rather annoying when overlapping other windows. So, I'd rather keep it short.
Last question: should it be Zablokowano or Zablokowane, as suggested in the previous post (or doesn't matter)?

Last question: should it be Zablokowano or Zablokowane, as suggested in the previous post (or doesn't matter)?
Definitely it should be Zablokowano, as it refers to singular form (one attack - described next - has been stoped)! You can use Zablokowane if you wish to make some kind of list, as it refers to plural form - for example "Zablokowane ataki" which means "Blocked Attacks" and then the list of blocked attacks.
Regards!
