What defragmenter do you us?
-
I use Puran, because I support world peace! :D
Does Puran support world peace? No. I just tell myself that for kicks, it makes it more fun, no?
-
Puran Defrag.
-
Puran Defrag, no contest.
-
Depends on your system, i did use Puran on my old systems ( xp, vista ) but defraggler by piriform is excellent for windows 7 as the file placement is the same as the default but it's faster with separate file scanning, boot defrag, drive health check and temp and numerus other features.

Puran Defrag.
+1

JKdefrag

Interesting. I started my carer whit Auslogics Disk Defrag a couple of years ago. Now I have O&O Defrag Free. I might reconsider… :)
Look here: http://hofmannc.de/defragxp/benchmarks_en.html

I just use Win7 one scehduled every day at 1 AM. Otherwise Defraggler though i'm still waiting for it to get automatic defrag mode.
-
Windows 7 - I use the windows defrag after running the speed test, works for me
-
windows on Win7
Piriform on XP
-
Diskeeper.
I have 5 computers and use different versions on them.
Since they run on their own, I hardly ever look at it.

windows on Win7
Piriform on XP
I run Defraggler on both XP and Windows 7.

That's the old version of Defraggler tested not the new version that is 2.08.373
What was tested is 2.02.253
-
Yes, it's a old test. Sorry.

Defragging every day :o a bit of overkill isn't it ??? with it set to auto i dont think it will defrag unless the system is more than 15% defragged anyway.
Defraggler has auto defrag scheduling in it's settings.

Yes :)

I tried Defraggler once, a couple of years ago, and hated it because it took so long time to defragment. It might be better to day.

It is definitly better today with the new version that is 2.08.373

Auslogics. Really fast.

I would like to see a Avast Defragmenter :)

Why? If there is a lot to defragment, it will do that. If there isn't, it will do it quickly.
HDD's are very tough, they don't just wear out like SSD's if you poke them too much.

I would like to see a Avast Defragmenter :)
Why? Let they focus on the security (antivirus + firewall) :)

I used to use Auslogics and it is very good and very fast but I switched to Puran free because it has more options and can defrag the registry, page file, and MFT during a boot scan.
-
MBR during a boot scan.
I think you mean MFT ;)
-
I will consider Puran. Right now I us O&O Defrag.
-

I think your right about it being the MFT (which does get fragmented).
@ Dch48
However, I'm not sure if it is able to defrag the MFT, or not as I do occasionally run it as defrag on boot, I still have 2 fragments for MFT and Registry on my XP Pro system in the C:\ partition.
I must try another boot-time defrag on this XP system and see if that has changed.
EDIT: just checked this out with the latest Puran Defrag and the boot-time defrag does indeed defrag the MFT and Registry.

When I mentioned JkDefrag, I should probably have put JkDefragGUI. It is far more advanced now in functions than the older version, is quick and well worth checking out. I use it on windows xp.

Ever considered MyDefrag, from the same person? :)

Yes I did mean the MFT.

I must tell that you got me with Puran Defrag.
I really like that defragmenter. It's great!
Thanks.

You're welcome.
Nice and fast and god features.

Nice and fast and god features.
Its terribly slow on my XP Pro system and I doubt even God would use it.
-
Strange how nothing works on your system when it does on others or you are having no problem when others are.
Works perfectly fine/fast on both my XP Pro and win7 systems.

+1 for XP and Windows 7.

windows 7 defrag.

We use Puran here on XP, Vista 32 and Win7 64. It works perfectly on all 3 systems and is very fast if you don't use all of the additional options every time. The Intelligent Optimizer only needs to be run at most once a month if even that. Personally I run it with only the first 2 options selected, optimize directories and fill gaps. I only use the full optimizer once in a while and hardly ever let it do the free space for temp files option. If I run a boot defrag, I don't choose any of the extra options since I only do that if the MFT, registry, or page file get fragmented.

Your Core2Duo E8300/ 2GB Ram system is way faster than my P4 2.8GHZ, 1.5GB RAM system as the number of cores is twice mine.

That may be but the XP system I have has an AMD Turion64 single core at 1.8ghz and the Vista machine has a Celeron 420 single core at 1.6ghz. Both Machines have 2 gb RAM with the XP one using plain DDR PC2700 and the Vista one using DDR2. Both have no problems at all running Puran defrag.

win 7 defrag

I have found a lot of everyday tools in WinUtilities Free. :)

Auslogics Disk Defrag because it's better than the plain Windows Disk Defragmenter. I've tried Puran Defrag before (version 7.2 and their latest 7.3) and didn't like it since it leaves some of my video and iso file being duplicated in another folders after performing a full defrag with their so called 'PIOZR'.

I've never seen that happen but like I said, I only use the PIOZR once in a while. Auslogics is good but Puran can do more.

Puran, especially it's PIOZR and boot time defragmentation is the only interesting features which make it worth to try. I don't really care about boot time defragmentation for MFT, registry, pagefile or hiberfil since it's impact to system performance is imperceptible.
I only do monthly full defragmentation + system optimization. Actually Windows 7 Disk Defragmenter is doing a good job already, the only major drawback is it's speed.
Puran system optimization (PIOZR) algorithm seems decent or maybe a bit better than the Auslogics algorithm. That's the only thing which makes me want to spend my time for trying it.
However, after 3 months (or to be precise, 3 times as I only defrag once a month) of using the software and each time resulting with a slight decreased in my drive free space. Naturally, I thought it's because Puran incompatibility with Windows VSS which turns out to be wrong after I find some of my video and iso file in the wrong folder and realize that it's being duplicated after checking my assigned folder to those files.
In the end, I'm back to Auslogics and quite content with it. :)

That isn't what you said here (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=89918.msg719247#msg719247).
