Title: Mail shield & Outlook 2010
Post by: richo on December 18, 2011, 09:29:01 AM
I'm using Microsoft Outlook 2010 to access my Gmail. I have noticed that Mail Shield does not scan incoming or outgoing email if the recommended settings by Gmail are used, ie using SSL & TLS. After searching this forum, I have changed my setting in Outlook to not use an encryted connection. While I now have my emails scanned, I was wondering if this makes my email less secure.
After reading the forum, it would seem quite a few people have had a problem with Mail Shield & Outlook 2010. I would be grateful for someone with more insight than myself to comment.

No, as avast! encrypts the connection instead of your mail client.

Have you also changed the settings in avast accordingly?

If
1_ your email provider requests SSL;
2_ outlook is not set to use SSL;
3_ and avast is indeed set to use SSL (so it takes over / replaces the old outlook setting);

then all is fine.
