I have been using Avast for several years - without any issues. Recently I was updated to the ver. 4.5X and things have not been the same since.
I am unable to send e-mail. I have tried everything suggested in these boards, but nothing has worked. I uninstalled 4.5 and reinstalled an earlier version. E-mail worked once again.
This is my config: WinXP SP2, OE and Thunderbird, ZoneAlarmPro, my ISP (wireless) does not use a sercure connection.
I downloaded AVG, installed it and the e-mail works fine. So, I decided to use AVG until the Avast e-mail issue is resolved.
P. S. My ISP tells me that this kind of issue in not unusual with some anti-virus programs. Norton and McAfee have caused the same issue with e-mail sending. The fix for Norton was to uninstall and reinstall. I tried this with Avast, but no luck - still not able to send email.
Any help would be appreciated.

I think the issue was in Zone Alarm. Beta fix version is still under developement and should be ready soon. Stay tuned and check these forums frequently.

You could try another firewall.
Like Sygate Personal Firewall.
/me slaps AVG with a large trout!

I use ZA and don't have any problems. And outside of Thunderbird, I have the same setup. So I highly doubt it's ZA.
Are you running any other Scanning or security programs?

The problem was only in my ISP. >:(

Davehries, I bet on the firewall too or, like me, in your ISP 8)
