Title: Mailscanner Error "500 command unrecognized"
Post by: sanderrrrrr on November 28, 2004, 01:33:35 PM
Hi, I run Avast home (and the mailscanner) at my (web, ftp, mail, etc.) server.
Avast scanns all E-mails which are send to my server.
Since a while I've got this nasty problem: avast can not relay E-mails anymore.

If I want to send an E-mail, this error occures Error "500 command unrecognized".

If I disable the Avast mailserver and send the mail directly to my mailserver, everything works fine again.

I think the problem started 2 or 3 weeks ago. Maybe becouse of an update downloaded by Avast.

Does anybody knows the solution?

Info:
I'm running W2K pro and Avast home(newest version).

Setup the mail as Avast isn't there. Check avast4.ini and make sure all settings under the [mailscanner] section are set to default. Does this solves it?

If not, upgrade to 4.5.536 and see if that solves it.

The version 4.5 has a new mail detection that will work automatically. Please, set up your email account just as avast does not exists. It will detect the pop3/smpt/imap ports and scan your messages. Can you make a try and see if it's ok? Thanks.

New email detection is automatic and do not require user interaction. Anyway, spam killer applications need manually change email account settings  ;)

This is by design.
In 4.1, it was like: mail client > avast > spam killer > mail server
In 4.5, it's like: mail client > spam killer > avast > mail server
