Title: Notification icon really needed?
Post by: Gibraltar on February 01, 2012, 02:01:59 AM
Hi,

Just wondering if the notification icon is really needed or can be disabled in the options. The help description for this feature left me wondering about it. If I disable the icon will it impact anything else on Avast?

Thanks.

Android stops services that are not "necessary". The icon avoid it.

So it's best to leave the icon visible on the notification bar.

Ok, thank you.

How is it better to have that icon there? There's almost no purpose for it and it tells anyone using your phone that you are using avast. What is the good in this?avast does it to use your phone as an ad. It also would tell a thief that you use avast and they have to delete your phone info before you can track them. Is there an option in the program to remove this? Now that I thought about it, this thing needs to go.

Of course there is an option to remove it, haven't you checked the avast mobile security, Settings 'Show notification icon' ?

hello I would like to inform you that on my galaxy nexus  with Android ICS 4.0.2 , it often happens that the icon disappears without my having disabled the "show notification icon." could you help me?

Well I too have a galaxy nexus with Android ICS 4.0.2 and I haven't seen this as an issue for some time in a previous avast build.

What I did to resolve it was to toggle the 'show notification icon' off and back on again in that old version.

I'm using AMS version 1.0.1590, what are you using ?

I am using the same version and , to reactivate the real-time protection, I have to deactivate and reactivate that option after

Strange, I never had to deactivate the protection, just toggle off and on the show notification icon.

No problem, hopefully one of the avast mobile security developers can give some input on this one.

Can you give a timeframe of this happening? Does it happen every few hours, every day, every few days etc?

seems that this happens in a totally random, but I also noticed other problems in my terminal. they are all bugs of Android ics? anyway I'll try to uninstall and reinstall avast latest version directly, without updating the old one as it happened.

ICS is still not officially supported so yeah, it might be ICS specific (since I didn't see any report from users with 2.x).

I just now reinstalled avast from the shop and although he was active option icon for notification, it will not appear on the bar. I had to turn it back on from settings ...

We will take a look at it at some time.

Can you tell me what other applications you have installed? (You can skip the stock apps.)

OK, I'll take a look at them and will see if any of them could by any chance interfere with AMS.

Hi everyone,

I think I found the issue with the disappearing notification icon. It's a bug in ICS, not in AMS :( We'll try to fix it so hopefully the icon won't cause any troubles anymore. Also note that even when the icon disappears on ICS, the application using the icon is still running the same way as it is with the icon displayed, so no functionality broken or denied in that case.

That's good news, as it has just started happening again on my Nexus 4.0.2. But not on a regular basis, just occasionally after coming out of a period of inactivity.

Filip, mine disappears also. But I confirm that the application was running in background.

Hi folks  :)
Is any chance to make notification icon a little bit smaller ? Currently on my HTC Sensation it looks like this:

Similar size to the icon of 3G WatchDog would look better IMHO :)

There are some plans about adjusting the icon, might take some time to put them in motion though, so no promises when that will be.

I don't have setting option to remove the icon notification bar.

Possibly because you have tagged along on a topic that is over 5 years old.

Lots have changed, not only in the avast mobile security, but also the Android OS version, not to mention Google changing the rules in relation to notification icons.
