Title: AVAST's virus and program updates slow down my PC!
Post by: courtenayguy on February 01, 2012, 10:18:16 PM
AVAST's virus and program updates slow down my PC! :o
It hangs my pc...fades the screen...and finally, after about 10 minutes, the audio message that the 'virus database has been updated' is announced. :o
This happens almost on EVERY update that I'm using the pc at the time...gosh knows what happens if the updates are happening at times OTHER than when I'm present and using it.
This is NOT acceptable.  :'(
Is it happening to anyone else?
Email me at courtenayguy@shaw.ca and we can discuss? ::)

this is a web forum, hide your email address, people will answer you here publicly ;)

... in the meantime please give your system spec (OS & hardware), and ... deactivate Avast voice if you don't like it.

I guess you need to remove the remnants of your previous antivirus http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ (http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/).

Then repair avast from "Add/Remove Programs".

You can also delay the first update after reboot, delay avast service after reboot, and/or change the frequency of updates' attempts.

In addition, if you have all your bandwidth being used (like for example in P2P applications), then the update will take "some" bandwidth, some time and some other resources.

In short, this is not the usual behaviour in all and every system, so something in your system is conflicting with avast, making your system slower than usual.
