Title: Malicious url Blocked in Firefox and IE on iGoogle home page
Post by: Bohma on February 23, 2012, 04:41:13 PM
Avast Free Version 6.0.1367                 Win XP SP3
This started to happen last night.  My Homepage in Firefox and IE is iGoogle.  Whenever I start up either browser I get a popup from Avast stating Malicious url Blocked.  When I click on Details I get various urls listed.  These seem to change over time.  I am listing two of them below

http://XXXXXXwww1.thebestnzm-cleaner.net.tf/i7..

http://XXXXXXwww1.safearmyugs.net.tf/y9jnuoq?x...

I have done a quick scan with Malware Bytes and it found nothing.  I changed my Home Page in Firefox to the Avast Home Page and the pop up warning has stopped. I guess if I revert to iGoogle again it will be back.

Does this mean that iGoogle is infected or is something wrong with Avast?

PS When I try to add a page to favourites I get an error message.

AvastSvc.exe  -- Application Error
The instructions at "0x09d67343" referenced memory at "0x0000004". The memory could not be "read"
Click OK to terminate or CANCEL to debug.

If I click on CANCEL the window  closes to the task bar.  When I reopen it the page has been saved to the favourites menu.

Disable the links in the post, so nobody clicks them by accident.

It looks like Avast crashes when you save a page to favorites. This should NOT be happening. By the way, This has been said by several people before but don't use two antivirus programs at the same time. They tend to conflict. Based on what you said alone that crash could be caused by such an incompatibility.

By the way, specify the version of your Avast and the OS. The last thing you want is one of the experts asking that question, then the thread gets forgotten.

Thanks for the reply.  I've put some X's into the example links in the hope that this will disable them.  Avast is not crashing as such. The program keepd running even though it is 'collapsed' to the task bar.

Can't anybody help with this problem?

I've scanned with Malwarebytes, Spybot, TSSkiller, Ccleaner and Advanced System Care Pro but the problem persists!
