Hi guys,

We have just released the final version of avast 7, version number 7.0.1407.

List of most important changes:
http://www.avast.com/en-us/release-history

Direct download links (before the partner sites get refreshed)
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe

Update from v6 should of course be also possible via the built-in program updater.

Additional details to come soon.

Great news Vlk! Have just updated to AIS v7.0.1407 with the built-in program updater. First I thought the update went wrong, seems like it (the progress indicator) freezed and get stuck for a minute, but I just waited, and voila´ , the update worked just fine!  :)

I've decided to format my laptop and install avast! 7 from clean. Looking forward to see some global success with the new features.
Congrats to entire avast! team for the (so far successful) launch of the 7th version!

still no way to update from the UI ... guess the bug was in beta 3 updater (and not just in the RC installer package?) ... downloading the file and will try to update, otherwise...>>> clean install.

Something went terrible wrong here  ;D After update errors and "successful" update one shield is broken...  Try to repair it or install from zero...  ???

PS. Are you sure I should see Business Protection Plus Setup name?  ;D

What a mess.  AIS
Tried to update from last beta to this via updater. Doesn't work.
Downloaded full package - cannot read installation file.
Downloaded package again (exact same file size) Installed
System said license had expired - inserted license file - accepted
All shields disabled, cannot turn on. rebooted twice, still cant get "network shield" on

Second machine - same issues.

Win 7 / 64 all latest patches - drivers

Update - turned off all shields, rebooted twice. ran CC cleaner. Re-enabled shields. Rebooted. All seems well now.

Is this an update from a previous beta? I'm afraid that won't work in most cases (works in some).
A clean install is preferable though.

Thanks

Problem with installer not away...
"Error reading product data from ... setup"
Have to uninstall, reinstall and make all settings manual like in rc1? What annoying...is there another trick to get this working without that?
Thx

I see that some people are having issues with updating to version 7.0.1407. I am using version 6.0.1367.0 of avast! Free Antivirus and my plan is for it to automatically let me know that there is an update.

OK, first update from file (not user interface in BETA - it was stuck in "Stage 1" for forever) gave me some errors and WebShield was broken after restart, but I did "Repair installation" and seems all broker parts now are fixed after restart.

Yes, as I was unable to update it to RC today, but it updated somehow from BETA to Final (jumping over RC > 1401 to 1407 ;D ) with some errors, but after additional "Repair Installation" now problems gone  ;D

It seems that updating from the RC build doesn't work - in AIS and in some non-English versions.
Sorry for that. Please reinstall from scratch (aswClear should now handle v7 also).

Thanks

sorry too late, I was offline while re-installing from scratch. Install went fine, except for one thing: got a weird message about trial activation, even though I inserted my ais license at the beginning of the setup. See screen shots.  Clicked okay on the prompts then the setup went on normally, rebooted, found AIS in a pre-trial state >>> I then imported my config file -  that normally contains my license too - license wasn't imported. The issue is not new but I thought that was fixed. Finally imported it manually and it's okay.

Avast 7 update worked perfectly. Thank you.

However, there seems to be a little glitch with the Firefox Webrep plugin. It says it is version 6.0.1407, instead of 7.0.1407 (Firefox version 10.0.2). For IE9, it says correctly 7.0.1407.

Can this little glitch be fixed somehow? Thank you.

OK,
solved the problem with installer, simply deactivated self-protection, deleted "/setup" folder, installed. Everything works, but now registration sucks...maybe servers overloaded by too many people loading new version? Or another new bug?
And the settings backup and restore function doesnt work, same error as RC.

Hello and congrats to ver. 7!

I like the UI but have one MAJOR issue:

It seems that with this new version, Avast 7 is confirming emails to active and/or register the free version.

Unfortunately, because of this we can no longer install and promote Avast to our customers.

We are a large PC repair company and deal with end users whom have very limited PC experience.  For more than 5 years, ALL pc`s which came in were installed with Avast Free.  (Easily over 500 per year).  Our techs cannot take the time to enter, wait for, then confirm emails to simply install an anti-virus program.

Prior to ver. 7, Avast would accept any email address and register instantly.

It`s a sad day for us, but we will now have to go to AVG...

Any chance of going back to non-confirmed email registration?

Thanks for the years of protection Avast!

OK because of the issue with beta RC fatal error with avast.setup and inability to update. Did a clean install of avast 7.0.1407 free and rebooted, all appeared to be going well, imported my old settings.

Tried to register, but that just hangs, left for over 10 minutes and egg timer still present, so appears stalled, closed window in the end.

In the registration process questions on android miss one of the obvious answers, I have avast! Mobile Security installed, which kind of makes the slider redundant.

Google Chrome is not under the protection of Script Shield as it was with Avast! 6.0.1367.  Google Chrome on Windows XP installs in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google.  Avast seems unable to see this.

The Behaviour Shield permissions dialog box (Behaviour Shield Question) does not show the full pathname of an object with a long pathname so the user cannot be sure what he/she is permitting to run.

Avast 7 has given me the equivalent of a faster processor.  The system is much more responsive.

I hope that Avast can successfully address the issues I have raised above.  Avast 7 looks very good and I look forward to the Google Chrome Script Shield issue being fixed.

I'm in computer # 2 and eventhough everything went fine after first re-start it aked me to end the installation of version 7, but  I have re-started my computer 4 times and still continues to ask to end the installation of version 7.

Besides I just made a complete scan twice and it is taking more than 30 minutes to complete, and I remember it took about 12 minutes to complete before in version 6 and I have not changed any settings.

I will import my Avast 7 settings and will do a fress install, perhaps these things go away installing it from scratch.

Clean installed and working well thankyou "avast" other than cannot register via the UI, it just hangs.
Ui was still hanging on the register so cancelled that and did the offline registration, just recieved my license email and inserted, all good  :)

I have done that as a back-up, but haven't received the email yet, I guess that registration method is taking a hammering also.

Hello.
First time having a problem with Avast!
Just updated via GUI from version 6 to 7. All went well but at time of starting after a restart: the icon below just started flashing and I can't start avast!.
So I decided to go for a fresh install: same problem.

My OS is W7 Ultimate (32bit) and as active resident protection, I have Online Armor (free).

Windows 2000

Update from v6 should of course be also possible via the built-in program updater.

Hi Vlk,
doesn't work with Windows 2000!  :'(

Updated over the UI from V. 6.0.1367 and then restart.

After that

1. there's no avast!-symbol in the taskbar

2. I can't open the programm over the desktop-icon.

(then I made an Acronis-Backup from my system with avast! FREE V. 6.0.1367)

Updated to from 6 to 7.0 on W7Pro-64bit today and starting an instance of Internet Explorer in Sandbox now causes a looping crash of IE ("IE has stopped working" - "close" or "Check online for a solution..." -> Close -> error repeats). Have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get out of it. SO clearly Sandbox does not work as it used to.

I Installed avast 7 1407. I was playing a game APB reloaded and it kept crashing a bit since I installed it. One time the game crashed then 15 sec later I got a blue screen and when I rebooted the computer I kept getting a blue screen while the windows loading bar was going on. Once I remove avast with the uninstall tool the blue screen went away.

Congrats on version 7! I am liking it so far but I am having some issues with both the sandbox and autosandbox. If I configure Pidgin to open in a sandbox I lose the taskbar icon for Pidgin. If I have the Autosandbox configured to Auto, Keriver Image will not load or show and icon in the taskbar. These are not gamebreakers but they do cause me to remove Pidgin from sandboxing and to turn Autosandbox to ask.

You don't have to confirm this email if you don't plan to log in to the avast account. The registration process finishes in the same way like in v6 without confirming the avast account email.

OTOH, you could use the avast account to monitor the status of the computers that are "managed / installed" by you.  You can connect multiple computers to the same account. And you'll see their status online.

Updated my free version from 6 to 7, after seeing this thread, via the tooltray-icon menu with no problems.

One new thing -- the tooltray icon is now rotating continuously (if a little jerkily) even when I'm not doing anything.  Would that be the new streaming-update feature doing its "thing"?

Take a look if it scans the same file (in File-Shield) again and again.

because i don't need to be always nice, lets be bit harsh :)

what i don't get why Avast can't have installer which needs only

1. know where Avast files are installed
2. know there are already existing config / setting files

then all it needs to do is

3. contact some servers to obtain latest build servers mirrors (some central forwarder on mirrors.avast.com)
4. download the files
5. overwrite everything with LAST build
6. utilize existing config / settings file, backup them, recreate new importing existing values
7. start freshly updated version
8. profit

from my point of view : 3 years passed, Avast has still same POS updater ... (using registry for builds lol^lol*lol)

note: resolved the cause by myself (headbanging over table, cursing coding and such to lost track on what all i tried to force the updater work as it should)
status: 1401 > 1407 ... it works :)

Further on that repeated-scanning problem ... I just added the PCTools folder to the File Shield's exclusions, and that stopped it.  May have been overkill, I could probably go back and restrict it to just that one file.  I imagine if by some wild chance I encountered malware headed for that folder, it would be caught anyway.

what else do you expect ??? ... other than that automatic program upgrades don't happen necessarily on the day a new version is out. It takes about a week until everyone get an actual prompt to upgrade. This is done to avoid a complete melt down of Avast servers, due to the amount of users worldwide.
This said you know now that it's available, so it's up to you ;)

Not in every case our choice:

Windows 2000

Update from v6 should of course be also possible via the built-in program updater.

Hi Vlk,

Updated over the UI from V. 6.0.1367 and then restart.

I've installed the new avast! 7 (7.0.1.407) with localized version (bahasa Indonesia), upgraded from avast! 7 beta 2 with downloaded install file (EXE). So, when installed on online condition, it broke, avast won't lunch after restart. Then installed once again (now is offline) ~ well, its work!

But there is a bug, the Windows "Scan Now" is missing its components, nothing there! Just a blank windows with some prefix.

And, as mention before, the avast! account still inaccessible :).

Updated two machines so far from paid/registered Avast, 1 win 7 32bit and 1 win 7 64bit, both were from Avast updater, worked fine, but be aware that the screen will be blank for 3 to 5 minutes looking like its locked-up, then will suddenly continue with the boot. All is fine so far. :)

I'm new the sandbox thing. For the first time a program I have been using for a long time was detected as a potential suspect although no indication that it was dangerous to run. After I tried running it a few more times it stopped being detected. it now runs as before. is this the way it should be working?

Not all shields loaded, "Fix" did nothing.  Between that and getting Outlook to work with the anti-spam (which I never did) I spent the evening getting ver 7 running.  It took all night but I did it thanks to Rollback.  What a mess.  I so tired I and aggravated I won't even get into all the goofy things I ran into.  Never had this kind of trouble before.

I'm glad avast met the precious 23rd deadline and released a version that still seems to have too many issues (going on the posts just before release). ::)  I wonder how long it will be before the next update/fixes are out.  Soon no doubt.  But the deadline was met.  Ans yes I'm grumpy after killing the entire evening.

Ran latest aswclear once more to ensure nothing from RC Built is still there and rebooted.... then made a clean install of official version 7 without problems :) everything is working excellent and this version 7 is awesome  ;D

While registering i get service is currently not available....why?  :-\

Thanks avast! team.

I consider this to be a bug that needs to be addressed. I was testing the auto-sandbox with the test file and it popped up asking me what to do since I have it set on ask. So far so good and just as it always has. Then when I told it to run in the sandbox, the other window popped up saying it was being analyzed. After a bit it said not enough evidence was found to consider it malware. Again , all well and good. Now here comes what I consider to be a bug. The analyzing window then closed but also terminated the sandbox test program so there was no way to actually test whether it could make any changes to the system or not. It does the same thing on every try. I don't think this is the proper behavior for the feature. It should not terminate the app that is running in the sandbox unless it was found to be malicious.

Just installed 7.10.1407 over here.

Booting up the computer seems a bit sluggish since the update. It takes a while for Avast to get completely set up, and when I double click the orange ball to check it, it says my system's unsecured. If I leave it alone for a few seconds it loads up alright. After everything's started up, though, my computer seems to run normally. I tried ticking "Load Avast only after loading other services" and it did shave about twenty seconds off the loading time, but it still seems a bit slow, sometimes locking my computer up for a few seconds.

Other than this, I haven't had any real problems. The program works well so far, it's just like dragging a horse up a hill to start it.

@Dch48

well the autosandbox works correctly....when the program is analyzed in sandbox and when it found as malware or not enough evidence it terminates the program in sandbox and eventually closes the sandbox so no damage to the system and asks u what action should be taken when next time excuted.

. It should not terminate the app that is running in the sandbox unless it was found to be malicious.
I think that might be by design....in part to stop people from using it like an on-demand sandbox.

They just want it to be a safe place for additional analysis.  Not something for you run a shady program in so you can have your cake and eat it too, or manually determine if it is malicious yourself.  I get the feeling they mean it to be an Auto-sandbox, emphasis on the bold print, little-to-no user interaction required....or wanted. ;)

It only stops analysis after like 10 seconds. The app will remain in sandbox until you close it or it closes itself. Malware usually just starts, tries to do its thing and terminates.

I have been using Avast for a number of years and have just updated to version 7.  Apologies if I have missed this somewhere but I have done a search without finding anything.

I am wondering from a privacy point of view what information is transmitted to Avast.  For webrep I assume every URL in a search engine result is transmitted for checking.  However I am uncertain about the cloud services.  Are details of every file accessed transmitted to the cloud for the reputation services?  Is any other information transmitted to Avast by any of the other modules, whether user identifiable or not?

Thanks

Simon

restart and repair doesn't fixed the problem.
firefox in sandbox has many issue with extensions especially downthemall.
maybe it was too soon for release final version.

Whilst I would agree, that you would want to move to Auto for the AutoSandbox default setting. I think removing the Ask as a user selected option completely, which I believe is your intention, is a step too far.

One of the great things about avast is its configurability.

You only have to look at the viruses and worms forum to see the intervention of the AutoSandbox on many of the analysis tools used in cleaning malware infections to see that there needs to be a way to run these tools without the intervention of the AutoSandbox or have the ability to select Ask and have the tool run normally, otherwise the only option is to disable the AutoSandbox.

Currently the AutoSandbox doesn't really do much, intervenes, but is unable to determine if the file is malware as in the attached image. So it has to improve greatly or the user will have no option to either force it to run sandboxed or not, depending on the knowledge of the user.

Personally I have all Shields and Action settings on Ask as the first option, that way I have control over my system and the actions that are taken.

 well I'd really rather keep the "ask" option available. The module makes mistakes, well it use to in previous versions.

 I had a "security prompt" btw, don't know what triggered it, I mean which module, the fileshield or this new file rep feature ... for tera copy, see screen shot. I allowed the program to run and all was fine.

However, there seems to be a little glitch with the Firefox Webrep plugin. It says it is version 6.0.1407, instead of 7.0.1407 (Firefox version 10.0.2). For IE9, it says correctly 7.0.1407.

Can this little glitch be fixed somehow? Thank you.

@Vlk

Definitively V7 doesn't work here with Windows 2000,

- NOT after an Update over the UI and

- NOT after a clean install.

In both cases and after Restart the PC:

Avast 7 update worked perfectly. Thank you.

However, there seems to be a little glitch with the Firefox Webrep plugin. It says it is version 6.0.1407, instead of 7.0.1407 (Firefox version 10.0.2). For IE9, it says correctly 7.0.1407.

Can this little glitch be fixed somehow? Thank you.

hi!  :)

It is just a number, it doesn't effect the working of the WebRep, it has already been acknowledged by one of the avast team and will in due course be resolved.

Hi folks.  Having a few slight issues with 7.

It doesn't seem to get along well with Skype 4.0(Beta).  When I am in a call and bring up the Skype window in any manner (clicking it to be active, closing firefox so it's the new active window, etc) Both Skype hangs(call quality remains fine), and Avast's tray Icon will hang for a moment or two while spinning.  I'll also get an hourglass next to my Mouse pointer which has freaked me out on more than one occasion due to paranoia.

Also, when I hover the pointer over an address too long to be displayed, the small window that pops up with the full address is blank.  All of this is on Windows XP, all SPs and updates done.  Thank you.

I was going to wait a couple of day to upgrade to A7 while I was reading what was going on here with A7 and see if Avast! Team irons some wrinkles out of A7, but when I booted my comp this morning Avast! 6 just went ahead and upgraded by itself to Avast! 7 eventhough I had " Ask when update program is available " selected in Settings > Updates. No big lost, but it should have not done so.

BTW Great job Avast! Team beautifully well made prog.

A couple of points

The upgrade went smoothly and almost imperceptible.

All my settings remain untouched

I got the Avast! 7 windows to " Complete the upgrade " which I did, and eventhough it did not ask for a reboot, I did it anyway and I got the same Avast window asking to finish the upgrade for a second time. See first screenshot. I rebooted again to get the same window but this time asking for the Google Chrome browser. See 2nd screenshot. I had to reboot a third time for the windows to go away.

Regards.

Yes it is, but I don't see a problem in updating on your netbook, I updated from the avastUI (6.0.1367) on my win7 (32bit Starter) netbook and no issues.

Your choice though.

A Windows 7 32 or 64 bit runs fast on a 2 GB memory. Tested.

A Windows 7 is sluggish on a 32 bit 1 GB memory . Tested.

A 4 GB memory is mostly a trending because of cheap ram nowadays, hardware is evolving and  64 bit OS is beginning to be fully supported most software.

2Gb is fine for a 32bit system but as 64bit systems actually in itself use more ram then 4Gb is prefered and benificial.

The problem being most netbooks have only one RAM slot, so you are replacing the original RAM and when I got mine 2GB was the largest SODIM chip available. "GB is just fine on win7 32bit.

Ever since I upgraded to Avast 7, it takes a minute or two for my shields to turn on after starting up, it takes so long that some of my other programs, pidgin on autostart if it matters, starts before the shields are up, I doubt this is an issue, but should I be worried about this?

I waited for the pop-up annoucing the update to Avast 7 Final, then updated from Avast Free 6.0.1367 to Avast Free 7.0.1407 last night.  I let the system reboot when updater requested.  After reboot, everything came up fine.  I've done some file scans via right click in Windows Explorer, and then a Quick scan.

Beautiful piece of work, Avast Team.  It's flawless for me.

The VPS had updated while still on 6.0.1367, and I hadn't seen any vps updates since although the streaming update did create a folder with the then current 12022301.  Just a short while ago, I did a manual VPS update to 12022400.  I do wish that http://www.avast.com/virus-update-history (http://www.avast.com/virus-update-history) was kept up to date as not knowing if there was a vps update available made me wonder if I was having update problems with Avast 7.  I also noticed that others were asking about vps updates today.  The latest showing on the site is 120222-0.

Edit: added latest.

After the unsolicited upgrade from Avast! 6 to 7 this morning,

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=93866.msg748165#msg748165

it seems that File System Shield is stuck analyzing;

 C:\Program files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\HPQSTE08.EXE

Every time I open File system shield HPQSTE08.EXE is the last file Avast! scanned. Also the amount of files scanned has tripled from yesterday. See screenshots.

Hello I installed the final version of avast 7 found no problem on windows xp sp3, the only problem so if 'you can' call that when downloading from emule I purposely downloaded 2 files infected with avast scanned promptly and readily recognized as infected, but in the table of the protection in real time the voice p2p continues to tell 0/0
0 or scanned files / 0 infected files, but instead should tell me if I'm not mistaken scanned and infected files.

I had that Yesterday but not for this file or level of activity on winpatrol.exe, as a temporary work around you can add that to the FSS exclusions (if you accept the limited risk).

It seems that the 'avast! transient cache' isn't working as it should scan once and ignore until the next VPS update or the file changing or reboot. Another possibility is obviously the VPS auto update, if that were experiencing a problem it may mean the transient cache thinks there has been a new update. This is speculation on my part, but theoretically possible.

However, that said it begs the question:
What is the C:\Program files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\HPQSTE08.EXE doing running as it is only activity on its part that would trigger a FSS scan ?

I think 5 minutes is far too frequent (server load) after all it is only passing you current status, 60 minutes is fine. Personally I may move that to 120.

I changed it from 5 to 60 pretty much instantly as well. 5 seems very often, and I am not sure if 60 is still to small a time.

The moment I add the folder to exclusions or stop the process, in this case HPQSTE08.EXE, Avast! picks another, UPHclean.exe, and stick with it. If I stop UPHclean.exe, Avast! takes IAANTMON.EXE.  ::)

When Avast! installed this morning, maybe midday for you, vps was 120223-1, I tried to update manually but it says there were not new updates. A while ago I upgraded the vps to 120224-1 manually because 4 hours had passed an Avast! did not upgrade by itself.

 I'll wait for another update see what happens. if not, I might install Avast! clean to get rid of any glitches.

Thank you DavidR

@Dch48

well the autosandbox works correctly....when the program is analyzed in sandbox and when it found as malware or not enough evidence it terminates the program in sandbox and eventually closes the sandbox so no damage to the system and asks u what action should be taken when next time excuted.
Like I said, to me that is not proper behavior and makes no sense. Even when I clicked on run sandboxed the next time, it did the same thing over again and terminated it.

I have created a new topic related to this high activity count of the FSS, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94023.0 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94023.0).

There also seems to be another issue as I excluded a couple of these repetitively scanned files into the FSS exclusions but some continued to be scanned and I changed the path slightly to see it that would resolve it.

But for me the major issue is why the Transient cache isn't working, as a file should be scanned once and unless you reboot, have a VPS update or the file changes.

Title: Re: Avast 7 Final Released
Post by: spg SCOTT on February 24, 2012, 08:05:04 PM

The "Ask" mode in AutoSandbox will actually be completely removed in the next update, as it lacks sense in the new v7 logic.
That is, in v7, the AutoSandbox is primarily an analysis tool.
We actually plan to even further watermark/transparentize all the UI elements of autosandboxed apps, to make it apparent that the app is being analyzed and it's not meant for "normal" use.

Vlk

That is unfortunate...

I preferred the use of the "Ask" mode, since I am a PortableApps user, nearly everything that I use from there gets sandboxed because it is on a flash drive (that seems to be the only thing really, since the same files running from the hard drive don't always show the same results) so having to run everything twice, just to allow it through the sandbox will be annoying to say the least.

I have a feeling I will be turning it off when this change happens...

I feel the same way if there is no ability to at least change the default settings to Ask and I lose that level of control, it is most likely it would be disabled rather than be left on Auto.

I don't even let the Behavior Shield remain on Auto (but set to Ask) and that is probably the most benign of all of the avast shields (some might word that differently, e.g. it doesn't appear to be doing anything). Its been on for about 9 hours and has scanned 5 events. Mind you I have unchecked the Monitor the system for unauthorised modifications as I have plenty of cover in that area.

Like I said, to me that is not proper behavior and makes no sense. Even when I clicked on run sandboxed the next time, it did the same thing over again and terminated it.
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=93866.msg747953#msg747953

Sorry, but if you were using Ask mode as a cheap on-demand sandbox, that is over now. ;)
No, I was simply trying to use the test tool which is now nearly impossible to do.  I do also run other things though that get detected by the sandbox. Portable apps and legacy software mostly and like has been said, the new changes make things very inconvenient to get those things to run non sandboxed. It will really be a hassle for some installers.

I'm amazed after reading posts here for two days and expected to have problems installing from the GUI. I was prepared with having the downloads necessary for installing a "Fresh" install on my desktop and even refreshed my memory of how to access Safe Mode.  :)

Everything seemed to go with no problems as I updated from the GUI after having v6.0.1367. I did wait to see if the latest definitions were going to download for the old version before updating. Guess everyone was busy at work and not worrying about updating definitions.

Thank you Vlk and Avast Team for the latest version. Well done!

1) Go daddy email blocked, have to switch from port 80 to port 3535
2) Sites that require anti-virus are blocking systems with avast! 7 because they don't know what it is.
3) When in stalling avast! version 6, installer says "this version is outdated" and forces users to install 7 with no choice.

How do I stop this.  I am being overwealmed with tech support calls from paying customers.  We can't force paying customers to buggy products.  They will bail!  HELP!!!!

How do I install avast! 6 pro?  We really need to get our $h!+ together!  Customers are PISSED!!

I had to Uninstall Avast through Add/Remove programs and the Program Uninstaller

Since installing Avast 7 my system has become very slow starting and - on one occasion - stalled after I'd entered my Windows password, seemingly not accepting 'enter' for a matter of minutes. There is a separate thread where others have raised the some issue but there has been no support response. I'd really be very grateful for some assurance that there's no risk of me being locked out of Windows.

Of course it stops working, it can't be connected when computer is not running. It will reconnect in a minute or two when you start it again.
Unless if it doesn't for several minutes, then it's worth further observing or inspecting the situation.

The offline update exists for a reason, and a person would not use such a cumbersome method unless they had to.

I updated to the new version last thing last night.   This morning on booting up my PC (XP SP3)  Avast launched and immediately hogged 95% CPU.  I thought it was just the update, but the update popup came and went.... fifteen minutes later still 92-95% CPU constantly and everything else (browser, email) brought to a standstill.  Ultimately I have had to uninstall.   After being a loyal user for couple of years I am not impressed.   :(

Vlk

i use the ask and prompt quite often as it from time to time classify something to run inside sandbox (even after i in past year market it as safe)

so i wonder what would be outcome if there is mistake on analysing and breaking something 'on run'

The autosandbox doesn't play very nice with InnoSetup uninstallers. Problem is the uninstaller drops a copy of itself to temp folder and this copy is the one that does the actual uninstall. This file does have a random name so there is no way to create a exception rule for it, so the only option is to turn the autosandbox completely off. How about some checksum based exception rules?

RC or code freeze wouldn't really change much if it lasted for 3 more days. With 200 million users and all the harwdare and software combinations, it's very likely that for some things will go wrong. But i can bet its only affecting very small number of users. You just have to release the program at some point.

C'mon RejZor, you don't really believe that, do you?

Some of the problems could had been avoided even with the same release date. For example, if the infrastructure was not 100% ready (and it wasn't), then why send the tray notifications? It would had been enough to let users download it manually and try it. Then you can adjust, correct, improve, test, and start releasing slowly.

The installer was nice, but buggy too. That's not about release dates either. An those are examples only.

Not true, IMHO. Some of the problems could had been avoided, especially that related to the buggy installer (which affects a large number of users). An issue very frustrating for a normal user.

And what about this: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94023.msg748495#msg748495

Do you really think it's only affecting a very small number of users and that a proper RC test would make no difference in that case?

It depends on the OS. For Win XP SP3 the default location should be:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast

Unfortunately at the moment I don't remember exactly which is  the default location in Vista and W7.
You can use Windows search, just type: avast5.ini

Yeah, very nice. ;D
Was away for a couple of days and just now "allowed" AIS 7.1401 to update to Final Release v. 7.1407 via program updater. Went off without a single problem.
Excellent piece of work!
Nice GUI tweaks. ;)

Updating via built-in program updater doesn't work dough. (from 7 beta)

My manual 'update engine and virus definitions' doesn't work...but my manual 'update program' does.

weird.

maybe the glitch will be fixed with another avast update....or maybe i have to do an install/repair....dunno..am not really techno literate.

Ps..can you send me a large picture of your jack nicholson I would love to have it on my desktop..it might make me laugh when i keep trying to manually update.

Well, something is not right with my Avast Free.

First, I can't connect to avast! Accounts: when I try to, a pop-up with spinning ring appears and disappears but no connection is established.

Second, I see no more usual adds bellow the security summary. When I allow the avast! Market tab, it says that I must be connected to internet if I want to see the content. But I am already connected!
I have found that there was a conflict between Avast and Windows 7 Firewall Control Free Beta v.5.0.0.2. I removed the W7FC beta and installed the latest stable W7FC v.4.1.21.93.

My problem is solved but I think somebody who has an account at W7FC forum should report the issue there.

It might not be the specific version, but the fact that your firewall software was involved. While changing it, you might have deleted the old rules relevant to avast, and when they were re-created, all turned to be fine.

Of course this is just one possibility, and there could be some bug in that W7FC beta.

Hi guys,
We have just released the final version of avast 7, version number 7.0.1407.
Hi
I'm working with Clarion (www.softvelocity.com).
Since today (upgraded to v7 free) 50% of my software are treated as potentially unsafe.
Where I can send some exe so you can check?

... I was removed some exe's from SandBox, and now some files are not treated as unsafe, but other still are.

George, if those things are not showing up, it almost certainly has to have something to do with a firewall or maybe even an ad blocker. I recently have reverted to just using the Win7 firewall in it's default setup. I just got sick of outgoing filtering messing things up and breaking updating and installation of too many things.  Many times, by the time the alert appears to allow the connection, it's already too late and the program has to be started over again. The other two computers here only use the firewall of their respective versions of Windows and neither of them has needed anything more in the last 5 years.

Then I have send setup and image showing sandbox.
Then I run it few times without problems, and after that again...
I have compiled new exe, same. Few time is OK, then not.

I make my living from such shareware, and I must say that I have used (in the past) some virtualization software, spend time & money and lost many customers regarding false positive alarms.
Now I'm not using such software, but such things make me lot of trouble.
It will be fast reviewed by Avast team, is that right?

You don't say what version you use, if it isn't the latest stable build, which is chrome v17 or earlier, then the webrep doesn't support them. Later builds, v18 or higher are Beta or Dev builds.

Is it supposed to make my Windows 7 Home Premium do a memory dump, then say explorer.exe is a suspicious file?  When I boot up, it crashes the computer, doing a memory dump. When it restarts the computer automatically, it says that explorer.exe is suspicious.  I'm thinking of going back to Avast! 6, because I didn't have any problems with it.  What were the changes in this version 7?  Also, it puts explorer.exe automatically in the sandbox.  Can anyone help?

avast! Free Antivirus let me know today that a program update was available (I was waiting for it to let me know that version 7 was available.) I started the update process and during that time my firewall program let me know that avast.setup wanted access to the internet. I gave it temporary permission to do so, and the update process continued. I was asked if I wanted to restart my computer, which I was glad to see because some people have reported that it didn't happen to them. I told it to restart my computer, and it did so.

I logged into Windows and the thing came up telling me about some (if not all) of the new features in version 7. It also gave me the option to install Google Chrome. I told it not to, and finished the installation. avast.setup again wanted access to the internet, so I again gave it temporary permission to do so. I started Firefox, which gave me the option to enable or disable the plugin. I told it to disable it. I uninstalled the plugin from Firefox and Internet Explorer and also disabled WebRep and the phishing filter in "Expert Settings", because I use WOT and Firefox has anti-phishing protection.

I restarted again to make sure everything was all set. I logged into Windows and again avast.setup wanted access to the internet. This time, I gave it permanent permission to access the internet, as my firewall program told me it was at C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\Setup\avast.setup. I'm curious as to what it is for.

I restarted a final time and logged into Windows. avast.setup didn't ask for permission to access the internet, which was supposed to happen since I gave it permanent permission to access it. avast! Free Antivirus seems to be working normally to me and I wasn't asked if I wanted to install Google Chrome upon each restart (which happened to some people) and all the shields are working fine (unlike what happened to some people.) The connection to streaming updates is established. I decided not to create an account. I also learned that I didn't have to register again, which I liked.

I'm glad I didn't experience some of the issues that some people had when upgrading. I think version 7 so far is the best version of avast! Free Antivirus yet. I thank everyone who worked and helped work on version 7.

I use a freeware program called SUMo which checks most user installed programs for available updates.
Here is where I download it from in case that info is helpful.

http://www.kcsoftwares.com/index.php?download (http://www.kcsoftwares.com/index.php?download)

I download the version with the red circle RK since it doesn't include Relevant Knowledge spyware. If anyone wishes to look at it,
uncheck all the optional adware etc and you just get the SUMo program itself.

This program worked fine using Avast V6, but it has slowed to a crawl once I upgraded to Avast v7. One of the earlier posts I read in this forum
suggested viewing the Avast File System Shield to get an idea what is happening. It was scanning each program and it slowed to the point I
had to stop the File System Shield while it ran. This behavior wasn't occurring using Avast v6.

Any ideas on how to handle this situation in order to make it usable again?

Is there a file that stores all the Avast Settings and Custom Scans? I want to back up that file.

A clean install means I need to redo all the settings (so if I can backup the custom scan files somewhere, that'd be nice).

Also, Avast was set to auto update program to Avast 7 (it downloaded it already). I don't want to install Avast 7 yet, how can I prevent it from installing the update once I restart (or can I stop it before it starts installing once I restart)?

I had far too many problems with an Upgrade from version 6 to 7 on XP SP3. The software rendered the computer unusable. I could not even get the Auto Sandbox set to Ask as it kept reverting back to Auto! I could not even get the software uninstalled in normal mode with out the computer locking up. Had to reboot into safe mode without problems. The unstall screens are not designed for safe mode resolutions as the buttons in the lower right corner of the screen are almost impossible to see. I finally got the software uninstalled and went to another anti-virus solution. Sorry Avast.

Sorry if somebody has already reported a bug like this here, to be honest, I didn't read the whole thread.
So my problem is that avast! 7 slowed down my PC so it was totally unusable. (I installed it from scratch.) It consumed all of my RAM and it made my HDD work constantly. Neither Windows Task Manager and Process Explorer could show which process made that, but I suspected avast!
I had to uninstall it and install v6.

the issue doesn't come from the wrong or right detection, the issue is in the security check process. Whether your file is safe or not is another story.

Thanks.
I see your thread, "Security check issue".
You will repair that issue?

the issue doesn't come from the wrong or right detection, the issue is in the security check process. Whether your file is safe or not is another story.

OK, thanks.

did you come here to find a solution? then upload your memory.dmp files to avast FTP servers.

Hi, you may want to check this thread:  http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94023.0

I'm still having issues with the email interface. I'm running xp 64 bit, current.
First, I selected to have splash show when outlook is started, it doesn't happen
Second, when i enable avast it disables the junk email settings i have set in outlook, and avast is not seperating the spam, so all mail goes to inbox where i have to mark each one as spam.(Why is my own junk mail settings getting changed ?)

I have the hueristics set to max, for avast

Title: Avast 7 Final Problems
Post by: tony.br on February 26, 2012, 06:49:42 PM
I am a long time user of AVAST and have recommended it to many friends

I installed AVAST 7 late last week and almost immediately started experiencing problems

Problem 1 - After installation, the last thing to happen is a half screen which says 'complete your upgrade to avast! 7' and you are asked to press the finish button at the bottom.  However this screen appears every time the computer is started.  Click on finish and it goes but reappears on each reboot

Problem 2 - Now it is noticeable that computer was very slow for some actions

Normal operation is very jerky (ie: freezes momentarily every few seconds.)

When I start the Task Manager and check the performance tab, the CPU activity spikes to about 40/50 percent each time it freezes

It became so annoying that in the end, I disconnected from the net, uninstalled Avast 7 and re-installed AVAST 6 and updated with the signature file.

Fortunately I had retained the AVAST 6 install file and a copy of VPSUPD.EXE that was only about 1 week old

I assumed it was some form of corruption in my copy of windows, but this morning, I received an email from some elderly friends who have 2 computers.  A desktop and a Laptop, both of which run XP

This was what they said...

~~~~~
Hi Tony
I am wondering if i have done something foolish
An avast notice appeared a number of times on the screen, full screen, saying its important to updateso I did, the update proceedures are worked through and the last thing to happen is a half screen which says 'complete your upgrade to avast! 7' and you are invited to press the finish button at the bottom.  this screen appears every time the computers are opened. I have done this proceedure on both computers!
Now it is noticeable that computers are slow for some actions
the desk stop has jerky movements when playing solitair.
I wonder if you have heard anything about this sort of activity
Hello tony.br,
Problem 1 is known isuue, please follow this:
I swiped these instructions from another forum member. It's caused by an error in the avast5.ini file. (at step 4)
1. Avast main GUI -> settings -> troubleshooting -> disable the self defense module and save settings (don't worry about the messages, accept).
2. search for the file "avast5.ini" (even if it is version 7 of avast); EDIT the file with notepad.
3. in "avast5.ini", look for the "[common]" section. There should be an entry named "ShowSetupOutro".
4. change the above entry "ShowSetupOutro" from 1 to 0 (zero).
5. save the file and reboot.
6. go back to avast main GUI -> settings -> troubleshooting -> enable the self defense module and save.
Win 7 64 bit -  Worked fine w/ previous Avast. Installed update, and system froze during final stage after restart. 1 1/2 hours later cannot run anything. I get to my initial windows desktop, but nothing will run, not even Win task manager. Wished I NEVER tried the update. All I want to do now is get AVAST off my system so it will run, but I can't even do that `cause I can't even get into Safe Mode to uninstall Avast.
I've read many posts here w/ similar issues re. this update. U should have tested it better!
If you really can't get into safe mode through f8 at boot, it may be worth trying to force it by powering down a running windows seesion through holding the power button in for 20 seconds. W7 should then offer safe mode on reboot.
Hello!
I upgraded to avast 6 yesterday morning (by upgrade button) and got too the "splash screen" asking to push "finish" to complete the installation of avast 7, but only 4 times (the third time it asked if I want to install chrome). For 1 hour ago I started the computer 2 more times and no splash screen appared :).
I noticed too, as some other, that the computer works a bit slower now. No other problems in my Win XP Premium sp3.
I chose to not enable autosandbox cause I have Comodo sandbox with df+ enabled, by the way, no conflicts with Comodo firewall in Win XP as someone mentioned to have with Win 7.
Yesterday I tryed to upgrade my wifes laptop (Dell Studio) with Win 7 64bit, and the download from the upgrade button stuck att 1/3 of the process. I canceled the upgrade after waiting 20 min. I'll make another try in some days, not worth now.
I'm a user of avast since version 4.8 and this is the first time that I experience som problem with avast  :-\
Ps. sorry for my english!
I love Avast, but I had to go back to version 6 on my machines. On both my Win7 machines, v7 just sits on the welcome screen after we log in. It takes a longer than usual time to load up. I'll wait until another v7 is released and try again. I had the problem with the popup many are posting about and got that worked out. Still it seems this release needs a little work. Thanks for all your efforts Avast!
It still is only going to check for and download the regular updates at the prescribed interval. Unless you've changed it, that's every 4 hours and the regular updates are not part of the cloud services. The streaming updates are cloud based and are only partial updates  containing the new defs that are considered the most critical to have. What triggers a streaming update however, I have no idea. Maybe they can fill us in on that.
Looks like this thread's long overdue for comment on a plus, and thanks to the Avast team for it.
I just noticed this morning that, after ages of requests for this from users, the status (main) screen of the GUI now includes a warning that self-protection is turned off, if that's the case.  Better still, it can be turned back on from right there, without having to go into Settings.
I might be wrong but I think the Streaming folder gets axed after a regular update is received. I still haven't gotten the -4 update for today and it's not due for another 2 1/2 hours.  I have both the 1202263 and the 1202263_stream folders but I bet the stream one will be wiped out when I get the 1202264 update. I could get it manually to check but I'd rather see what happens with the auto-update.
You got it right.  Every regular VPS update clears the previous streaming updates, as they are just interim signature updates until they are integrated into the next VPS.  When the updated VPS is received, they're no longer needed as they are redundant.
What a mess.  AIS
Tried to update from last beta to this via updater. Doesn't work.
Downloaded full package - cannot read installation file.
Downloaded package again (exact same file size) Installed
System said license had expired - inserted license file - accepted
All shields disabled, cannot turn on. rebooted twice, still cant get "network shield" on
Second machine - same issues.
imagine that, avast being a piece of s***. why is it the final release always ends up acting like a beta? i stopped using avast when it messed with my operating system license key, plus a couple shields weren't even functioning.... if it's not 1 thing, then it's another with avast. i spend more time trying to recover from this b.s. than i can enjoy it. i dig the UI, the graphics, and the design is more than i could ask for, but it's no good since the software can't even read itself. i mean.... wtf? i'm sick of being disappointed with issues. do a better job, so people don't have to raise hell with you. :)
avast! manual update from v6 to v7 on 3 laptops running Win 7 Pro x64. Installed V7 on top of v6.
No issues at all! All the v6 settings were kept! Everything works!
Outlook 2010 mail: no issues!
All 3 laptops feel as fast or faster than before!
Internet browsing, no issues! Pages open as fast or faster than before!
Great job avast! team :D
Avast 7 is a real piece of work.
My XP machine is now slower than ever,
no way to update manually, just sits there and does nothing,
so over bloated with junk,
thinks every program on my computer is unsafe.
I want my computer to work for me,
I don't want to work for my computer.
Looks like when my subscription is up, I'll need to find a new anti virus program that been on a diet.
Guys, more bells and whistles don't make for a better train.
Ron
PS
I always wait a while after a new version of anything comes out, to see what problems folks are having and to let the bugs get worked out. I love avast, but from what I've read here I'm glad I waited...and will continue to wait before updating to 7. Since I've read at least one other post where someone said they were going back to 6, I'm assuming the virus definitions and such are still updated if you stick with an older program version for a while?
Avast 6 updated to Avast 7. It looks to be installed, but did not work properly: The AV was off, the "Fix now" button didn't work, neither did the real-time protection.
I did a clean unistall using AVAST utility in safe mode.
I then tried to reinstall Avast 7. Error message. Here is the installation log: http://pastebin.com/G1YQsz63
Clean uninstall again using AVAST utility in safe mode.
This version 7 really screwed up my computer. Not only can't I install version 7, but I can't even go back to version 6!!!!
Here are the errors in both instances:
1) Installing Avast 7
Installation went ok for me. What I didn't know, wasn't warned about, or gave consent to, was the installation of other software at the same time. I DON'T want Googlechrome installing, and I don't want unknown extensions added to my Firefox browser either. If I want software, I go find it and install it myself.
As a result of v7 now behaving like malware, I am now removing it -just a few minutes after it finished 'updating'. I'm hgoing back to v6 as a temporary measure, but will remove that in favout of other software ASAP because AVAST obviously cannot be trusted and support for v6 will end eventually anyway.
What other things are going on in the background that avast hasnt warned users about? personal info being sent somewhere perhaps?
shame on you avast.
They may well be repopulating the servers as I believe there was a problem in the update package (mentioned in another topic by Lukas). So this may be what you are experiencing.
What is the download location you used ?
You need to go back to the drawing board.
I just downloaded & installed Avast 7 on a brand new Dell w/Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit.
It installs ok but then you get a series of "application error" that keep on coming.
I uninstalled & re-installed and get the same errors.
I had to install Avast 6 for it to work.
Please fix.... long time user of Avast
If it was from a direct download link (like the first post in topic), via avast & download.com, etc. or manual program update (which is what I now suspect) ?
Yes, it seems that it also effecting the Virus Definitions as update would probably be suspended whilst the update servers are repopulated, as mentioned in my previous post.
I'm a long time user of Avast, until 6 months ago. It then started to behave weirdly, loosing my Resident Protection randomly. Since Avast 4, it has gone sour, each time customer service is bad and you take litteraly your hair out of your head making the software work on your pc. For them, it's not their software, it's your PC. So guess what??? I'm leaving the boat, an AV is far too important to loose your head on installation problems. A good Firewall and a good AV is all I need and they shouldn't be a cause to torment me. :'(
look, I had to do an install from scratch from V7 final, and it's been running perfectly fine since then. We're running the same OS, Windows Seven 64 bit. So what's going wrong on yours ... honestly I have no idea precisely ... don't know if you upgraded from V6 , and I'm aware there are huge upgrade problems .... otherwise .. You're saying:
A good Firewall and a good AV is all I need
MBAM ON ACCESS,SASfree, Sandboxie3.62,HITMAN PRO,Windows Firewall Control + Win7 FW, FF10.0b4 HJThis2.04,WOT-SA-AVGLinkScanner,Winpatrol
... I mean what do you expect, no problem ???
 >>> oh forgot to mention, V7 runs fine here, and apart from AIS, there's nothing else (security related) running.
Not wanting to be bullish or stupid...I still find it abnormal to have to reinstall Win7 64bits from scratch or put the image or go through Recovery. My signature is outdated has I only have a FW and MBAM and Avira which finally runs stable and fine on my PC without having to undergo all this mess. I'm not saying go to Avira, I'm only saying to Vlk and others to learn from their errors! ???
N.B.:Avira as Avast has become bloated in order to increase their malware fight strength that's why you have to get rid of registry and drivers remnant in order for them to work properly. That's why I don't like this thread to make people mess up their registry
I REALLY like avast 6 Pro:  www.advantage77.com/Files/setup_av_pro_601367.exe
The “WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS” procedure to “scrape” all of avast! remnants from a computer system (AKA Pete Scrape) using the avast! example:
1) Add remove programs, remove avast!, restart.
2) Go to safe mode, use avast! removal tool, select avast! version #, restart, and repeat for every avast version ever loaded on that system
3) In Local disk C:, ProgramFiles, delete “avast” and “Alwil” directories if there.
4) In C:\Windows\temp, remove all.
5) Start, run, type “%temp%” and remove all.
6) Do a Windows search on all hard disks for instances of “avast” and “Alwil” and delete all.
7) Start, run, type “regedit” (Windows key + R). Under Hkey, current user, software, and remove “avast” and “Alwil”, then under Hkey, local machine, software,  and remove “avast” and “Alwil”
8) Use CCleaner to remove the rest of any avast! orphaned registry remnants, and restart.
9) Install avast! and reboot!
10) Usually, good luck at this point.  And you can substitute other manufacturers products into this script.  Remember, registry hacking is always risky, so always have a backup before you proceed.  It’s kinda like the acknowledgement checkbox in LSPfix, “I know what I’m doing, or, I like to reinstall my operating system”
Streaming updates are working here though I have seen the conection break at different times on 2 machines.
The My avast account is puzzling though and I am beginning to wonder if it is worth the bandwidth.
Logged in just now to see that 2 machines are Green and secured and my main machine has a nice red "Attention" displayed.  This information is utterly useless as nothing else is conveyed and the display clearly says that all shields etc. are running. Check on the avast GUI and everything is normal , all systems are running and defs updated ie; no issues at all .
My sons machine which has not been online for over 18 hours is declared green and fully protected,yet the server has obviously no way of knowing this as there has been no contact.  ???
So, having disconnected my machine from the account for 5 minutes and then reconnected, the "My avast" account page now shows a new unidentified machine "New Device 10" with all the OS/License and shield info for my PC.  The details registered against this PC previously are still sat there against the machine/device name but showing "Attention" ......... think I'll just stop using the account system, just cannot see the point in it.  I know my settings, I know when the license expires and the graphs are simply not needed.
add it to the sandbox exclusion list manually if it's not there already, depending on what you answered when prompted.
Something else. This is the first time that Comodo D+ detected Avast setup.ovr. It has never been detected before in so many years I am using Avast and Comodo.
Error 0x080046400 and AvastUI.exe - application error: the instruction at 0x776b8dc9 referenced memory at 0x00000014; the memory could not be written. The last warning appeared when I turn on the pc. I unistalled the AIS 7 and I did a restore point. AIS 7 work fine now. The actual version is upgraded from beta. I'm afraid of doing a clean install because the mentioned problems can pop up again.
Regards
Relu
I don't know what happened here. I'd been having problems with avast 7 IS not updating. After reading several threads, I decided to do a clean install. So using Revo Uninstaller, I uninstalled AVAST. After an hour of revo deleting over 700 files, I rebooted.
Avast was still there, running perfectly and it updated without a problem. I've never seen that happen before, but am not complaining. I will, though, watch avast very carefully for a while - just in case.
A mio parere non è corretto integrare l'aggiornamento di Avast con quello di Chrome ! :( Si dovrebbe almeno chiedere se l'utente vuole farlo.
Io avevo una versione beta di Avast e ora mi ritrovo con la versione ufficiale; ho dovuto ricaricare il profilo e non so come eliminare l'avviso che la mia versione non è aggiornata e non può caricare il profilo.
The exception unkown software excepion (0xe06d7363) occurred in the application at location 0x7532b9bc.
I made a few notes:
How to uninstall Avast 7 that's not working using software aswClear.exe:
Download aswclear.exe into a folder and remember where it is. DON'T PUT IT ON YOUR DESKTOP...
Here’s the page:  http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
After the download is complete...Start Windows in Safe Mode
Open the folder you put aswclear.exe in and execute the uninstall utility
If you installed Avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
Click REMOVE it will tell you when it's done...
Restart your computer in normal mode...
Find a Version 6 of Avast and install it.
It's fixed... that's what I did...
and DON'T download 7 until we know it's fixed.
The "Ask" mode in AutoSandbox will actually be completely removed in the next update, as it lacks sense in the new v7 logic.
That is, in v7, the AutoSandbox is primarily an analysis tool.
We actually plan to even further watermark/transparentize all the UI elements of autosandboxed apps, to make it apparent that the app is being analyzed and it's not meant for "normal" use.
Vlk
Can I get some clarification on this point? Does this mean just the "Ask" option in AutoSandbox is going away, or also the ability to disable AutoSandbox?
AutoSandbox played absolute hell with a number of programs on my system. I don't really need it anyway--all I want is an unobtrusive real-time and on demand scanner, which Avast has done well to provide. I refuse to use Avast with Sandbox enabled, so if the ability to disable it is going away, that's bad news indeed.
god i hope we can still disable auto sandbox in the future , if we cant, then i will use another free A.V , why are you taking  choices away and forcing settings on us, and oh please make sure we can opt out of installing google chrome, if i cant set things how i want, i will move else where .
Talk about overkill, if it can't be set to Ask, then just disable the autosandbox, retaining the other avast protection.
However, that suggestion was slated for the next avast update and I don't believe that they are talking minor program update. Any final decision taken on the removal of Ask as an option even if being considered would totally depend on the accuracy of the autosandbox.
So this I believe is some way off, so this is a bridge to cross if and when it happens, then just disable it if you don't want it enabled and set on auto.
My avast! 'account' allows me to keep an eye on any machine with avast! installed that I assign to it, less intrusively than remote control/login, more effectively than hearing nothing from the user until it's too late.
When you say "played absolute hell', do you mean that selecting "Run normally" or excluding them from autosandbox didn't work? AFAIK no-one's talking about removing these options.
yes but my point is that there is more than one problem being discussed in the thread and somebody new might find value in what he posted if they didn't know about the fix. That's why I said not completely irrelevant. It could be relevant to the overall thread topic if not to any particular post. He does seem to be spamming the same thing around in other topics though. Well avast doesn't attempt to control the windows firewall. In fact if you had the Avast Security Suite, which has its own firewall even that doesn't disable the windows firewall as it is designed to be compatible with it.
So I believe this is an unfortunate coincidence. If you have any other issues you want to discuss, then create a new topic so it can be resolved without being lost within this massive topic.
Hello, I can't stand people who usually ask for software release date, however (sorry) I read in one of the past comments that Avast Team is going to release an update to the current v7.0.1407 in the next few days - Now I'm wondering if that was just a sort of rumor... I'm asking the users, perhaps one of them knows more, since I haven't checked all the threads.
I'm going to re-install or fix Avast7 on a couple of friends' systems  this weekend and I would wait a little more if a new version update is coming...
Thanks in advance
Let me say it in an other way.
Before 7 i didnt have any warning from Avast.
With 7 i have 1 warning saying Avast isnt protecting my system compleet. When i look what isnt protected it says thast Avast cant activate my firewall. Ok that was the first warning and i have looked into the forums for an solution.
Than i see that i must uninstal Avast with a special tool downloaded from Avast, so i did. In safemode .
Than i downloaded the new Avast 7 and installed it but now i cant access my email. Not from microsoft or from yahoo.
And i have that warning telling me that Avast is again not protecting my system again.
And whan this is an masive topic, than why is it so big? Something is TOTALY WRONG
Exactly. But I faced this problem first time ever, after installing v7 (clean install since the update borked v6 and I had to use aswclear 2-3 times in safe mode to uninstall v6) so not sure what else could have caused it. Manual enabling also did not work. I had to re-boot.
Recent definition updates seem to have improved things a bit, I think. Hopefully another program update expected soon should resolve most issues.
As I said, unfortunate coincidence, if the program doesn't have the functionality built in to disable the windows firewall then it can't do that. Since the avast free version doesn't have a firewall there would be no need (which I believe you are using though you don't say or have a signature) to disable it.
Actually, the first version of avast 7 I tried was the the RC and it did result in the Windows 7 Firewall being turned off after the required reboot.  I rebooted again without touching anything and the firewall was back on but then it said that my sound service was not running. A third reboot finally resulted in everything working as it should. There may be something in the way avast! loads during boot time that can cause problems. This was on the Win 7 machine. The other two had no such problems.
Hi!
I updated to avast 7 from the built-in program and rebooted. No problems! Every shield is working, the computer is working as fast as before and no conflict with the firewall (Comodo 5.9, I tested by blocking iexplorer and comodo dragon with new blocking rules in comodo and the browsers could not connect to internet, I removed the rules and they coul connect again). Manual update works also.  No random hanging. I used the computer with avast 7 for almost 2 hour now and rebooted twice (just to be sure) and......so far so good! The computer is a Dell Studio with win 7 64bit. For some days ago the upgrade to avast 7 did not work (as I wrote on page 25)
I disabled avast's autosandbox and reputation sevices.
Maybe you don't download executable files, I used Ares this days and my avast p2p shield count was 0/0 so I search for some exe files and the number changed to 30/2.
Today P2P shield count returned to 0/0, a little bug here?
Have you rebooted the system? as that would reset it.
I had no problems at all with ver 6.0 AIS, since upgrading found all sorts of headaches and my old computer was so sluggish when browsing. Have un-installed and now using MSE and all is good. back to fast browsing, so maybe AIS is not for me! Will re think when all the reported problems on here are fixed!
Did not activate account or reputation settings.  Listed 7.0.1407 as being
installed.  Everything working fine as of now.   :)
Thanks for the update and all the great work you guys do. I updated from the previous stable version of Avast, straight from the program itself, without any problems whatsoever. Am using Windows XP and Comodo Firewall, I did update engine and virus definitions before updating the program. I have put this information in as there appear to be some users having a problem updating straight from the  program itself.
Perhaps you are experiencing DPC latency, I am not sure in your case, but when my sister netbook (Acer Aspire One Pro) with XP Home Edition (SP3) - with avast! 7 free alone, it works like charm. I didn't see any slower response on the system.
I haven't seen any activity for a very long time on the script shield, in firefox or otherwise.
But I don't expect to see much in the way of script shield when I'm browsing as I use NoScript and RequestPolicy firefox add-ons and that blocks the majority of scripts from running.
??? ... I'm now seeing tens and tens of items scanned by the script shield in both Chrome and Firefox now.
ps: and I'm using script blockers in both ;) ... legit scripts, ie unblocked scripts must be scanned anyway ;D
Yes, but still I have seen nada for some considerable time in XP Pro, either browsing or not. It used to be to test the script shield I would just fire up windows media player, but that doesn't wake it from its sleep now.
@DavidR
Script Shield works with Internet Explorer here but is does nothing with Firefox.
I have reported in separate threads for version 6 and version 7 before.
I would like to know is if this is a bug, if it depends on the system configuration or what.
For sure it doesn't depend on Firefox.
I am asking you because you confirmed the issue back when I reported it for v. 6 and you told me you were asking somebody to take a look into it.
Trouble is I don't like the IE experience and haven't used IE as my primary browser for many years and I certainly wouldn't use it just to see some activity on the script shield.
It was reported but that was as far as it got for a while, for a short time there was activity as mentioned, but now 'as I have said' there isn't any activity even outside of the browser (WMP 11.0.x).
Since we were experiencing speed problems in the avast forums, I have long since excluded forums.avast.com/* and static.avast.com/j/*.js from the script shield. But I rather suspect that even if removed there would be little difference. I have all options checked in the main script shield settings.
But even opening IE results in 1 local script scanned, disabling URLs to exclude results in 20 scripts being scanned in IE8.
Same here with IE.
But it is nothing new, I am having the same issues since some release of the V6 series.
Hello, yesterday I did an upgrade of Avast 7 Beta on a virtual machine that is updated to version 7.0.1414.
The host system is the latest version 7.0.1407 and not updated to 1414.
What causes this. Will the new version soon?
In 1407 I had a problem with the remote control.
Excuse me for bad English. I use google translator.
I have to second his comment on Version 7. I have a license for Avast Pro. When I updated to 7 issues started to develop which I was not happy with, also rec'd the BSD. Avast should have been more careful than rushing the new version out and tested it more thoroughly. I removed it from my computer also, and using F-prot now, much, much better.
As I repeatedly said, Avast is loosing many fans over it's bad moves. Using an AV shouldn't be more bad than having a virus by itself and with Avast you often loose more time trying to correct your AV than trying to repair a would be infection!!! :'(
The same question applies to you and rogo , have you tried 7.0.1414? nothing wrong with this build imo but then again i had no real big issues with any of the earlyer 7 builds either other than the update process locking which a simple provided fix cured.
Wonderful.... 7.0.1426 seems to have completely broken OUTLOOK 2007 & 2010 on loads of machines.
The worst part is that nobody from Avast seems to be addressing this issue.
Nice going guys. Way to tank a great program for a whole lot of people. It's like Microsoft releasing Windows Vista after XP. Absolute garbage following up Greatness.
Can we please have a roll back script?
Can we please have some acknowledgement from Avast staff?
Can we at the very least have a single OUTLOOK thread stuck to the top with all the posts merged? I bet it becomes the longest thread here.
It's time consuming to search several pages deep to find how many people are having this problem with no solution and no acknowledgement.
I'm not happy that I paid for this. I would rather throw the money away on the lottery.
Please disregard the 11 million search results when searching Google for avast outlook error.
avast! forum is here to help and most of the users will acknowledge real problems like yours.
I'm myself experiencing trouble with Outlook 2007 and avast! 7: the toolbar of antispam comes and go, starts and does not start.
You know what Tech... You're right and I do apologize for throwing in those barbs. I didn't conduct myself professionally and I admit that.
However, at least consolidating the outlook threads was a good suggestion.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why my personal machine is different and I can only find one thing. I have many (50+) email accounts (postmaster@, abuse@, ipadmin@, etc) and several are configured different than "normal".
1) Some companies use different MX & A records for their domains. When the registrar is Network Solutions and you do this, the resolver is unreliable and you can't use mail.domain.com for POP3 and SMTP. You have to use an IP address in those fields.
2) Lots of ISP's block port 25 for outgoing mail (even some commercial providers do this). So, port 26 is used as a mirror on most linux servers. I have accounts using 26 and and others using 25.
Thanks for giving me that "wake-up" Tech... my apology is sincere.
I hope you find this to be a little more constructive :)
Do not use Revo to uninstall Avast!. It is better to run aswclear. It is its own utility to do so:
During installation the Avast! window which offers Chrome is there. It is hard to see, but is there.
If you have a paid version, why aren't you using the Safe Zone for banking? I personally never sandbox my regular browsers because I see no need to with the other built in protections both they and Avast offer.
:( I had no problem downloading the new file, installed fine all seemed to be happy.  I then attempted to use my computer and it would boot up, then start to slow way down and then freeze because of over usage of resources.  Uninstall avast and it runs fine, though it is without protection.  Ideas?  Avast did update the same day that Windows sent out 40 plus security fixes, maybe Windows removed or moved a file you all "anchor" to?
I suggest an installation from scratch:
1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html) and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! (http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html) version and save it.
3. (Optional) If you want, save your avast! settings for later restoration (Settings > Maintenance > Back up).
4. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode (http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml) and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
5. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1 in Safe Mode (http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml). Boot after you've run it. Repeat this for any major avast! version you have ever installed/upgraded in your computer.
6. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
7. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade (http://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php) your key from old versions.
8. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.
Dear Forum Guys!
I don't know am I using the right topic or not but I have the following problem.
AvastSVC.exe kills my CPU. The usage is always almost 100%.
I have XP SP3 and avast internet security 7.0.1426.
I have Sygate Personal Firewall version 5.6 build 2808.
It happens since the last 2-3 weeks. I did not install or change anything on the system. Just update avast automatically.
I hope you have the solution.
Thank you in advance!
Regards,
Chris
8. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.
Washed, rinsed and repeated but it did not change the problem.  Anything else I can try?  :(
Please start a new topic for your issue. Thanks.
I suggest an installation from scratch:
1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html) and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! (http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html) version and save it.
3. (Optional) If you want, save your avast! settings for later restoration (Settings > Maintenance > Back up).
4. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode (http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml) and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
5. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1 in Safe Mode (http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml). Boot after you've run it. Repeat this for any major avast! version you have ever installed/upgraded in your computer.
6. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
7. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade (http://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php) your key from old versions.
8. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.
You've told us you're using Windows XP SP3 but never told us anything about your computer. How much Ram   etc ???
