I was using the RC of Avast and everything was working fine including the mail shield. I then used the avast uninstall utility so I could install the final version. Since I have been installing the final shield my mail shield doesn't work. Please help.
Avast IS - Latest Version
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Mbam Pro

What does "doesn't work" mean, exactly? It says STOPPED? What happens if you try to start it? And does the problem persist even after a reboot?
Thanks
Vlk

It basically says "module isn't started". I click fix me and it still stays as service stopped. The fix me button doesn't do anything. I've also now reinstalled and rebooted thrice. I did have my mail shield set up in the RC. By starting it, nothing happens. I've also tried a repair and that also didn't work.
-
@the OP: the avast uninstall utility doesn't remove the avast folder in program data so, did you remove it manually before installing V7 final? ... if an upgrade process between V7RC and V7 is an issue, it's better to really install V7 from scratch.
-
I deleted the file from ProgramData manually already and have installed from scratch.

And it works now? If it doesn't, then instead of "repair", try "change", select all the components and "next", and when it finishes, reboot. Please report back.

that's the thing, doesn't seem to work after that. And on a side note, the times I've had issues with a mail shield not running (during the beta testing), repairing, removing, re-installing the module... didn't change anything. I had to re-install completely. Same thing when it happens with the firewall, but that's not new. You never know why it happened ;D ... as it starts working again following an install - apparently - in the same conditions as when it didn't work.

Done another clean install, removed the programdata avast folder. Still doesn't work. Done everything which has been mentioned from the above posts. Anything else?

that's weird, the devs might want to get some of your logs ... Vlk ?
-
I know it is wierd. How would I even get logs?

the mail shield log is in Avast program data folder, with other logs in a folder called "logs" ;D ... but wait until a dev asks you, they may need more than just this log.... setup log etc...

Sorry I have to ask now, but I want the info to be perfectly clear for the devs.
Is the mail shield:
1_ "unstable" and can't be started nor installed?
2_ showed as installed, but can't be started?
3_ started but not scanning ( 0/0 )?
-
I have now just realised my Web Shield is running but it is NOT scanning anything.
-
2_ showed as installed, but can't be started? is the answer.
Here is a screenshot of the mail shield...

If you go to "summary -> current status", can you turn it on? Try "turn on", wait a minute and reboot so to see if the status is still saved.
To be clear, it should say specifically that the mail shield is turned off (look down the window). If it is not there, then use the "general turn on" to the side of "real time shields".
-
Clicked on turn on the mail shield and rebooted, it did nothing. Also my webshield isn't scanning anything.
-
It looks like there might be a problem with the redirect driver. What OS are you using, exactly?
And when you uninstall, can you please make sure that the driver aswRdr2.sys gets deleted?
Thanks
Vlk

@ady okay as already clear from the beginning of this thread, the mail shield module is simply not running.
...Now we learn that the web shield stopped scanning. These two issues happened with one of the build during the beta phase.
Deactivating all shields and turning them back on might trigger the mail shield module ... once, but it'll be off again after a reboot.

@ Vlk Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Where would I locate the driver file?

C:\Windows\System32\drivers

@ady okay as already clear from the beginning of this thread, the mail shield module is simply not running.
That was clear before the new clean install. The report after the clean install was ambiguous regarding the new status.
@Vlk,
if the driver was not deleted correctly, then aswclear might have a problem.
-
Okay, got rid of driver. Uninstalling and reinstalling now.

no it wasn't ... but nevermind ::)

you should have uninstalled first and checked if the driver was still there after the reboot before deleting it, but okay ...

If "nevermind", then don't use that language in a public post. You are assuming information in a post. Don't.

if you stopped posting rubbish on the forums for a start hey? as to the language that I use when I'm talking to you, I'll judge what's appropriate and what's not ;D
ps: tens of your posts should just be deleted.

Removed those files manually since they never got removed by Avast uninstall utility. However.. Mail Shield is still not working.
-
Note I removed aswRdr2.sys from the avast folder. Not system32 because when I deleted it from there I lost internet access,

okay was it still in win32 before you re-installed or not?
-
It was in there since I lost internet access if it wasn't in there. This is why the BETA should have not finished so quickly. Seems like it's been rushed alittle.

I had the same problem. I must do a clean install twice on Win7 with AIS.

I'm having the same issue too with a Clean Install.
I've tried it once with Uninstall and the second time with the uninstall utility in safe mode - No dice.
It doesn't bother me too much though.

After an uninstall , rebooting, use of the wswclear.exe tool, another reboot.
Fresh install, 3rd reboot, everything is working as it should. All shiels are up and running.
If a video will help, I'd be happy to make one.
