Hi,
I used the built-in update on Win7 to update from Avast 6 to 7. Everything seems to be working so far except, the welcome screen after the update (that tells you about the new features) pops up after every reboot. Is there a way to remove this? Maybe a registry or other setting?
Thanks,
Laszlo

Hi Laszlo, welcome to the forum :)
Can you follow these instructions and report back the results:
Try:
1_ Avast main GUI -> settings -> troubleshooting -> disable the self defense module and save settings (don't worry about the messages, accept).
2_ search for the file "avast5.ini" (even if it is version 7 of avast); EDIT the file with notepad.
3_ in "avast5.ini", look for the "[common]" section. There should be an entry named "ShowSetupOutro".
4_ change the above entry "ShowSetupOutro" from 1 to 0 (zero).
5_ save the file and reboot.
6_ go back to avast main GUI -> settings -> troubleshooting -> enable the self defense module and save.
This is how was reported in the German forum. Please report back.
The path to this file will be:
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\avast.ini
Note:
- ProgramData is hidden
- Depending on how long you have had avast installed the path may be:
- - ALWIL Software\Avast5\avast5.ini (or some variation)

@Scott, Thanks a lot, this solved the issue! (I had it in ALWIL Software)
@Tech, Sorry, I used the search function (probably my keywords were a bit off) and even skimmed the first few pages but I did not connect the boot problems title with this. Thanks!
By the way, Avast is great and is getting better and better. This is the first thing I install on everyone's computer! Keep up the good work!

You're welcome :)

I am having the same problem, but I can't find the "avast5.ini" file anywhere on my computer. I can get to Alwil software and then Avast5 folder, but the avast5.ini file isn't there. Can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to find it?

I am just a little confused why " we " have to tweak settings for this to stop, can't this be fixed and put out in the next update?

On top, like I have ALWAYS done with Avast, and never had a screen stuck on every boot, it's obviously a issue when the update was created, simple line of coding got messed up, which should be corrected prior to another update, consumers should not have to be editing files just to undo what the software did.

you may try a new clean install....
read instructions..... remove with this http://www.avast.com/en-eu/uninstall-utility
donload and install latest again
did that change anything?

I'll try it ONE TIME, and if this doesn't work, I really do expect and hope to see a fix from Avast.

The fresh install worked, but now, I'm back to very basic protection, and no more free trial of the pro or whatever it was I had.
I appreciate the help, but I still feel everyone shouldn't have to do all of this to stop a annoying bug that should of been fixed by the developers for the next update, or should of fixed the coding, and put out a quick update.

Add "IgnoreSetupOutro=1" per pk http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100773.msg805717#msg805717 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100773.msg805717#msg805717)

Found the Avast5.ini file and put the "IgnoreSetupOutro" underneath, but I couldn't get it to save. I got a message telling me to check file name and path. Any ideas?
