plzzzz do help!!!!!
:( :( :(avast 7.0.1407 freezes windows 7 build 7601 service pack 1 32 bit completely
it takes exactly (or more) 20 minutes to boot up and load desktop icons..taskbar etc
it seems like every alternate boot hangs the comp at the welcome screen...if it doesnt...it stays at a blank screen with cursor consuming 20 minutes
after successful startup...on opening avast interface and clicking ok ...etc...freezes the computer completely...keyboard...capslock indicator...etc stop to work...i have to hard boot then
no point in modifying avast5.ini file...already tried that[/]
avast support team please do help
i love the new features of avast 7 but i am compelled to uninstall it, this is my 1st post..please pardon any mistakes
thanks in advance
regards

Had you uninstalled your previous antivirus? Eliminated its remnants with the respective removal utility?
Are you able to boot into Windows Safe Mode normally? Or you have issues in that situation too?
-
no i had avast6...i updated it through the maintainence tab...then this problem started...i was using avst6 happily....however windows work fine in safe mode
-
Try uninstalling avast from Safe Mode. then Reboot into Normal Mode and test if all is fine. If it boots correctly, you could try installing anew and rebooting after the new installation.
Optionally, you could clean any remnants after the uninstallation http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility)
Although, aswclear might still leave some remnants, like aswrdr2sys in C:/windows/system32/drivers or some other "avast*" or "alwil" folders. Delete them too (after the normal uninstall and after aswclear). Only then, when all seems fine, try the new install (of version 6 if you'd rather go back).
-
yeah...that will supposedly and most probably WORK...but can i not get avast7 working fine maybe if theres a bug in this version..they may fix it...problem is i want avast 7 features like cloud services
-
I'm not saying to get rid of avast 7 permanently. Just to clean up the system (like running aswclear for both avast 7 and 6 too) and try a new install.
Anyway, an just to be clear, avast 6 is still active and useful.
I can't give you a patch or alike, as I am just a simple user as you are.
-
thanks for ur efforts ady...and yupp ur patches and tweaks are most welcome..:)...
..also i wanted to know how to change theme/skin of avast gui...if possible...hope u know..."simple user"
-
Avast 7 is supposed to be "tolerant" with some Windows configurations, like "High Contrast" for example, but I haven't tested this yet. Other than that, no skins in avast 7 :(.
Let us know how the cleaning and reinstall goes.
-
SURE I WILL LET U KNOW ABOUT REINST ALL AND ALL

I have had exactly the same problem with v7.0.1407. It completely freezes my Windows 7 sp1 64bit. I have to physically turn off by cutting the power.
I have uninstalled in safe mode and reinstalled twice. Still freezes.
I have reinstalled 6.0.1367 and so far so good. No freezes.
Something is definitely wrong with 7.0.1407

I have the same problem.
For fixing it, I stopped the Agent File.
My computer is running on XP SP2.

Please read the topic, and, if necessary, open new topics for each case, as each one might be different and it is more difficult to answer to each one in the same topic.

thx in advance...regards
-
Reetesh: this might be an odd problem with other programmes u have set to startup with ur computer. please state any programmes u have set to startup with the pc on top of ur system specs (it need not be antispyware/antimalware, it could be even be something like a defragment utility)
do post ur reply here ;)
-
hey i have defragmented my all drives recently..cleaned all spywares...etc...
and after the consecutive reboot this is my observation....alas more weird
time cumulative
pressed the power on button at 0 secs 0 secs
logon sound 56.72secs 56.72secs

@antivirus...earlier my comp was woking fine...and it all started with avast7 upgrade
so something is wrong ...plz help me to fix this...shit now it takes 13.5 minutes to load ...wat to do..freezing problem is solved if u leave the computer till it fully loads
-
nope, i am saying if u have any anti malware tools running alongside with Avast! (eg. Malwarebytes pro, superantispyware or defragmentation tool like Iobit smartdefrag)
whether u defragmented ur drives or cleaned all spywares is a separate thing all together.
just stating the possibility of them conflicting with Avast! on ur particular system setup, thus the need to state them here to help Avast! support replicate ur problems
-
YEAH I HAVE ONLY MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS AND TUNEUP UTILITIES 2012 RUNNING ALONG WITH AVAST
AND ALSO THE COMP WORKS SUPERFINE AFTER IT "FULLY" LOADS...NO FREEZING PROBLEM TILL NOW WATSOEVER
AND DONT TELL ME TO UNISTALL MSE OR TUNEUP...I LOVE THEM
-
well for ur information MSE cannot be used together with Avast! antivirus.
please do not use 2 real time antiviruses together...they are bound to conflict with each other sooner or later, causing system freeze at the very least, BSOD and unbootable systems in worst cases...
since u trust MSE more than Avast!, i recommand u to uninstall Avast! and use MSE only
side note: i know ur frustrated with ur problems but please do not post in caps. i see it as ur shouting and it is plain rude
-
I've been having similar problems with hanging at startup. Switching off the rootkit scan and loading Avast after other services seems to have helped but not done sufficient reboots to be sure. The only uncommon service that I have at startup is CfosSpeed.
-
As I posted earlier I am having the same problem with system freezes.
I too am running MSE - I have a relatively new Windows 7 computer and am new to Windows 7 and did not really change anything from the stock installation (which is why MSE is running). I am also running Malwarebytes pro.
Having reinstalled 6.0.1367 everything is back to normal with no system freezes (with MSE running).
I was going to disable MSE in the past but is has blocked something nasty a while back that Avast did not pick up (although Avast has blocked stuff quite a few times that MSE did not detect).
-
at dim33: it is really not safe to have more than 1 antivirus running together real time on the system. problems may occur now or in the future. in ur case,
it is possible that the new Avast! 7 kernel driver does not like that of MSE while the old Avast! 6 'seems to be ok' (note the word seems) even if all seems
well, when u actually happen to get a real malware on ur system, MSE and Avast! may 'fight' to open/scan the file, possibly resulting in problem detection/
neither of them detecting the malware due to conflicts.
running malwarebytes pro is fine because it is an antimalware programme i.e. it operates on ring 3 level, different from ring 0/ ring 1 where most antiviruses work in.
so just choose one antivirus paired with an antimalware. ;)
-
no way...i am not being rude...it seems u r not having any solution i guess...that wts making u frustrated and u r finding excuses....any ways ...i hav run mse with kaspersky norton and avast 6 never faced any problem and also after pc fully loads thr is no problem...i lyk writing in blok lettrers cz that makes it more clear and legible without increasing the font size and moreover i edited the title of topic so i resorted to caps...and continued...hope u get exactly wat i mean
-
well quote from microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5201
'Before installing Microsoft Security Essentials, we recommend that you uninstall other antivirus software already running on your PC. Running more than
one antivirus program at the same time can potentially cause conflicts that affect PC performance.'
if u still insist on using 2 antiviruses together, i cannot stop u.
btw the solution is to uninstall 1 of them: thats my solution to ur problem ;)
-
yaaa ideally you are correct...but we are real...we tend to customise as per our interests and else...sure it wud conflict but do you specipically confirm that the specific reason of freezing or long startup in this particular case is due to a conflict...are you sure if we uninstall and confer the entire virus remedy trust on avast...then will this problem solve...lemmme tell you...if some layman told to format ur pc and then install avast 7 then sure it would work but thats a layman solution ...got common sense ..sure we cannnot afford to do that
-
....so i dont consider it as a conflict which would give u a damn "bsod" or freeze the computer...lol
Well, you're wrong.
-
@ asyn well i admit i am wrong but tell me how make both work together as it did previously
-
@ asyn well i admit i am wrong but tell me how make both work together as it did previously
Everything already has been said, you have to decide what to use - MSE or avast!
-
r u sure that would work???

3 pages this went on for and if you had of answered ady4um truthfully when in the first reply he asked you if you had removed your previous AV then your problems would have been solved long ago.
Reetesh people like you bloody annoy me and waste so much of the forums help resources where they could have been better allocated to someone who deserved it >:( ::)
-
I have the same (or very similar) problem.
My only AV is avast!.

I uninstalled it couple of months ago. As I remember, I uninstalled it by following the instructions on their web site. I used avast! 6 without any problems since that.
-
what is the very similar problem? mind elaborating? any errors whatsoever?
if there is please provide a screenshot here ;)

I uninstalled it otherwise I couldn't use my computer because of its speed.
Something made the HDD work constantly and something consumed all my memory. Neither Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer was able to show what process did that, but I suspected my newest software, avast! And yes, it did this.
