Today morning I download new update of avast! VPS from below link.
hxxp://files.avast.com/iavs5x/vpsupd.exe
An Error occurred, When I tried to update it.
I attached Print Screen of that Error.
-
Have you tried updating through the avast UI ?
-
Automatic update is working in Laptop with Internet. but I want to update Avast! VPS in a PC which is not connected with Internet. So I had download avast! VPS and trying to install but not working. :( ???
-
Same problem with me
-
I had the same issue, it seemed to be updating on it's own though. Sadly that's where my issues really started! add remove programs will not remove avast!. nor will the removal tool, although I didn't try in safe mode tbh. I had to restore to a previous image. Will leave for now as had a years worth of issues in 8 hours!
-
I have a similar problem.
In Win7 32bit I tried to update AV6 to 7 from within the prog and it just froze.
I then downloaded the latest version and ran it. It reported that it could not read system info, the last operation was 'spawning'.
I tried uninstalling, using cccleaner, and got the same error message.
Is there a way to remove Avast if the uninstaller doesn't work?
-
Try ( avast Uninstall Utility ) ...
http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe
1 - Start Windows in Safe Mode
2 - Open (execute) the uninstall utility
3 - If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
4 - Click REMOVE
5 - Restart your computer

if u have code 11 error and still have the error u posted at the start of the topic, please reinstall Avast! 7 from scratch
1. Download a fresh Avast! 7 package from http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download (to reduce chance of corrupted install)
2. uninstalling Avast! the normal way with windows
3. run Avast! uninstall utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (please do it in SAFE MODE! )
4. run the uninstall utility (2 TIMES) total, one for Avast! 7
5. reboot and go into safe mode once more, second time for Avast! 6 (this is because i noted u have updated to Avast! 7 from Avast! 6)
6. reboot again, this time to normal windows mode
7. install the fresh package
8. please report ur findings here =)
basically code 11 error is the updatefix.exe way of telling u that theres no problem at ur side

On contrary, as it is said there, error codes 2 and 11 are sign that you don't have the update problem and things are working.

See here Tech http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94514.msg753239#msg753239 updated fix is supposed to cure the error 2 and 11 now hopefully ;)

If the machine is not affected by this particular problem, the tool will report so (usually with error code 2 or 11) and won't do anything.
If you did not experience any problems updating the virus definitions in the past 24 hours, just ignore this tool - there's no point in running it.
-
div_dib: at this point, if theres still a problem with updating, u might want to try generating a support package and upload here for Avast! engineers to look

can anyone help me with this error? iv created a post in the virus area

Hi,
there is newer fix [1] that should cover all the other situations where the original script reported "error code 2 or 11" althrough your avast setup was corrupted.
Please let us know if this doesn't work for you.
thank you
Lukas.

Please locate the file
C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\Setup\part-setup_ais-57f.vpx
and upload it to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming)
First copy the file to some temporal folder (desktop if you want). Change the name of the file to something unique, as "<username>_part-setup_ais-57f.vpx". Then you can just open the mentioned FTP url in Windows Explorer and drag&drop the unique file there.
Thanks.
[EDIT]
Improved the instructions a little.

When did you download the updatefix file, as there was an update to that recently ?
What errors/notices are you getting when you run the fix ?

it said i have no issue to resolve, i have tried both fixes there was a newer one today. it said the same thing.

Looks like you are going to have to do a clean reinstall, probably best and more likely quicker in the long run:
Use one of the routines mentioned on page 1 of the topic, contrary you don't have to reboot twice.
OR
- 1. Uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

sweetalmond2010 please wait for the help to arrive in the viruses section as your system appears to have more issues than just avast and posting all over the forum is just confusing people.

As craigb said stick with the viruses and worms topic until that is resolved and that includes attaching log files as everything relating to the probable infection needs to be kept together, otherwise it just makes life difficult for those trying to help you.
