Post by: pippocavalieri on December 06, 2004, 10:27:42 AM
using avast! 4.5, build nov2004 (4.5.549), compilation date: 02.12.2004, file version 0449-1

setting the scan option "thorough scan" the system breaks down.
avast! works fine with standard or quick scan
the symptoms are:
desktops icons becoms unclear
desktops colours destroyed
cursor unavailable
never ending scan process
the system must be rebooted.

my system software is a xp home edition at last update level

i have a lot of free memory and a lot of free disk cache

thank in advance for any help

setting the scan option "thorough scan" the system breaks down.

Try to open the <avast>\data\avast4.ini file and in the [Common] section, change the item Database=ODBC to Database=XML. This could prevent the Microsoft Jet drivers from accessing the database... does it have any (positive) effect?

Also, try to disable the VRDB generation while scanning to see if it helps...

Do the problems depend on the settings of "archives" for the scan?

Does it always happen when Avast is scanning a certain folder?
Any errors/strange things in Avast's log file?

i know the answer to this question (...strange log messages) is
very important..
but i am no able to say anithing because as i wrote in my first
posted message the scanning process never ends.. so i have
to interrupt the scanning process perform power off..
the desktop becomes black, i have no cursor, the combination
anter/alt/delete is no responding and the log is empty.
i have no possibility to see the folder or the file.
the log option is set to critical errors

The log option is set to critical errors

Please, can you set it to Debug?
All the above events will be logged in this position of the slider...

Any other thing you may consider relevant?
I mean, can you see the avast skin or not? Isn't the name of the file listed there?
Which other software is running meanwhile?
