Title: users (in the French section) reporting aswclear issue in safe mode
Post by: Hermite15 on February 29, 2012, 06:20:25 PM
... yeah, just a repeated scenario for a start, free version users forgetting to dismiss the Chrome install at setup time, losing their old Chrome profile, then attempting to restore Windows to access their old Chrome profile again, and finally Avast launching in non-secure mode. So the guys then tried to uninstall in safe mode with aswclear, and got the message from Windows that aswclear is not a valid win32 application ??? what's up? thanks ;)

ps: never saw that happen with aswclear
ps: asking them now with which version of windows the issue occurs.. don't know yet.

Good question.
It was slipped out in some threads and I don't know the answer...

Avast launching in non-secure mode. I thought this was fixed in version 7?

Similar to unsecure problem? http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94196.0

Clean install solved it.

;D guys, main reason why I posted this thread was not the non-secure status, this has happened with all versions of Avast, off and on since V5 .. the actual reason I posted this thread is because some people attempted to run aswclear in safe mode and they can't! >>> "aswclear is a non-valid 32 bit application" message is popping up on some systems.

When I see this "aswclear is a non-valid 32 bit application" in relation to any executable file (not just aswclear.exe) I thing infected system, as this not a valid 32 bit application is a common tactic (blocking) of some malware.

So this may need further investigation.

oh okay ... it's just that two users are reporting that ... could be that their systems are infected ... I'll ask there...

It certainly bears further investigation, even something like MBAM if that too was found to have the not a valid 32 bit application, I would be more suspicious that it was an infection trying to block security related applications.

I used aswclear just yesterday, twice, in a 32 bit sys. No problems at all.
