Hi. I had to do a restore point on my comp and ever since then it will not work. I did an even further restore point hoping that would helo and it did not. So, I tried uninstalling Avast altogether and re-installing but I keep getting the same error message.

The error message reads: Error reading product data from "C:/Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\setup\part-setup_ais-557.vpx" Setup cannot continue.

I press ok in the above message box and another error message pops up: An error 0 (00000000) has occurred. Last performed operation was: spawning

I am using a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista and I am using the Avast free edition.

Please help.

avast does not like restoring....so it usually end up with removal and reinstall

follow instructions on website, from dropp down menu find your version and run  http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

then reboot.....install avast again and reboot


OBS: your toshiba probably came with a preinstalled AV...this must be uninstalled before installing avast
it is also recomended ot run a removal tool to clear any leftover files that may conflict
