Title: URL:MAL popping up over and over again
Post by: jpc1982 on April 07, 2012, 08:44:33 PM
Hello,
I have the same problem that a few others here seem to have. A box indicating avast has blocked a site keeps popping up over and over again, even when I don't have a browser window open.
I run windows XP, avast 7 Internet Security, and Malwarebytes.

This started about a week ago.
Here's a screen shot of the pop-up box

When I first tried to run the OTL scan an avast pop-up told me it had terminated the program and the next time it was run it should be run in sandbox. So twice I tried to run it in sandbox and both times it went along just fine for about 20mins or so then my computer got the blue screen and windows shut down.

Should I go ahead and try to run the aswMBR ?

Here are the OTL files.
I am attempting to run the aswMBR scan however, it appears to be getting stuck on a certain file. The first attempt to run it I noticed it said scanning the same file for about 1/2 hour, so I exited and started the scan over again. This time it has been stuck on that same file for almost an hour. It's a file within \Application Data\Google\ then I can read Up the rest is cut off past the edge of the screen and I can't expand. Is it normal for it to take so long or is my assumption that it's stuck, correct?

Thanks.

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

If you have Malwarebytes 1.6 or better installed please disable it for the duration of this run
To disable MBAM
Open the scanner and select the protection tab
Remove the tick from "Start with Windows"
Reboot and then run OTL
(http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/mbamstop.jpg)

Run OTL
THEN

Download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here (http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop.

A report will be created in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply.

Run OTLRun OTL and hit the cleanup button.  It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that(http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/javaicon.gif)   Your Java is out of date.

Good day Essexboy,
Just reporting back that everything is fine and dandy still.   :)
One further question, the aswMBR did not delete during cleanup. Is it ok to just go ahead and delete this manually?

Your help was truly appreciated, 4 people use this computer and they always look to me to fix whatever goes wrong. I must be getting old, cause I just didn't feel like facing this lastest nasty alone.  ;D

This was quite an easy one as it was the Job that was causing the mayhem
