Title: Technical help request - Installation
Post by: essexboy on April 21, 2012, 07:31:04 PM
I have a person I am helping who gets this error when they try to install Avast

I have allready had them run aswClear to remove all traces before re-install...and this is the error they are getting - any one have a thought on this ?

It looks as though ashbase.dll is not being loaded

One topic I found with this error in it and though it doesn't seem related, the OP resolved it by reinstalling C++ http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=92483.msg736404#msg736404 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=92483.msg736404#msg736404).

Although this happened with an older version of avast, it might be worth trying a reinstall of Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable.
You/they need 2008 SP1 - this is the one:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2051a0c1-c9b5-4b0a-a8f5-770a549fd78c)

I'm not referring to essexboy's quote, but with the topic link that I gave, with the possible solution reinstalling C++ 2008.
