Chances are Avast doesn't have a definition for whatever that file is.  I don't expect Avast or any other anti-virus to catch everything out there.  It is for reason like this why on-demand scanner are around.

no solution have 100% detection of all the malware out there. so it could be just that avast has no detection of that file yet. but you could help avast by sending it to avast for analyse.

Send the sample to virus@avast.com zipped and password protected with the password in email body, a link to this topic might help and false positive/undetected malware in the subject.

Or you can also add the file to the User Files (File, Add) section of the avast chest (if it isn't already there) where it can do no harm and send it from there. A copy of the file/s will remain in the original location, so you will need to take further action and can remove/rename that.

Send it from the User Files section of the chest (select the file, right click, email to Alwil Software). It will be uploaded (not actually emailed) to avast when the next avast auto (or manual) update is done.

Have you tested that file against other sources? It could just as easily be that Hitman is wrong and showing an FP.

Tweaking to the Max = Slow computer, Many pop ups and Many false positives. (Bad Move!)

My comp is pretty fast. LOL

But still you can get false positive detections from Avast or other AV programs. ;)  Stay with default settings.

lets say you install a key logger to track your kids surfing......   http://www.award-soft.com/content/view/250

programs like that will be detected as PUP...if you installed it, its okay...if someone installed it to spy on you...then it is not okay
anyway, there is several cases in this forum with factory installed programs from HP / DELL that are detected as PUP
avast is just telling you that you have a program that can be used for good or bad if abused

I have tweaked my heurlistic settings to high with PUP enabled and have noticed no slowdown or increase in false positives. And this is with an old computer. But, I did not set it to scan all files.

Put the file in the virus chest and send it to the lab for testing.
