All i need to do is turn off Avast.
I've looked and looked and I can't find a turn off button.
I don't want to uninstall it, just turn it off while I fix another problem.
Any help out there?
Mick

Try right clicking on the avast ball ( avast shields control )
-
Which is the another problem? ;)
It's not wise to turn off the antivirus...
Anyway, right click the icon and choose "avast! shields control".

Thanks for the help

Anyway, right click the icon and choose "avast! shields control".
and doing so is Avast completely turned off??? I mean it will not detect virus for example?
I also searched a long time to option to deactived Avast for a short time and I am surprised to read that this option is by right click the icon and choose "avast! shields control" ??? I am not at home now so I can not check, but could some one explain to me what happens after right click the icon and choose "avast! shields control". It will give me option to choose for how long I would like to disable Avast or what? Or will this lead me to where the different shileds can be stopped?

Once you have right clicked the avast ball then scroll over "avast! shields control" and options will appear for you to disable shields for varied amounts of time.

You installed avast! to protect you from infections. Why in the world would you now want to turn off that protection
to infect your system ???

Well stands to reason that if you disable the shields then yes it wont detect viruses and you'll be unprotected as Bob3160 mentioned.

please answer to my question wheater/how Avast will completely turn off?
I have one application whtich I uploaded/ backed up to my online storage platform and I would like to download it again. But Avast (file shield) stops this every time, what is actually correct, because the application contains Adware. BUT I know know to disable the adware, so I know the risk.
I thought I will deactivate the file shiled , will download the application, will make exclusion rules in Avast to prevent that file to be scanned and will activate the file shield again. But nevertheless the fileshilds pops up that is blocked some malware in .part file in temp folder and I can not download the application. Creating exclusion rules in the file shield for .part in thethe temp folder does not work...
so what now?

not completely turned off..... but all shields are paused
-
>:( so there is no possibility to turn off AVAST ?????? And paused shioelds means still active and wont let me downbload the file.
Maybe prevent Avast from loading on startup?????
I need the application on my computer

you can download file....
-
I am not sure. As I wrote I stopped the file shield (the other were active) and when trying to download the block-popup came from the file shield (!!!) .
Im not at home to test...could you please test it for me somehow

If I understand this correctly, you have a program that is detected by avast! and you want your AV to compromise itself
so you can use this infection ???

Not only that! he want or expects us to download and test his adware program for him :o ::)

Maybe even blame avast for allowing his system to get compromised...... ???

oh ... I dont want you to download that file. And I worte that I take the risk, because I know how to deactivate the adware, but for that I need it on my PC.
You can make test be dowloading the eicar test (I hope I have it right in my mind). Stop file shield and try to download

Very simple, remove avast! and then play with your toy.
You either want protection or you don't you can't have it both ways.

1. Maybe it's as easy as just deactivating PUP. ;)
2. How is Eicar related to this..?? ???

how do you mean this?

well to test if stopping the file shield means disable it

Before we continue here, how about telling us what you want to download in the first place..!! ;D

Right click the avast icon in system tray and select 'Show last pop-up'. Screenshot that and attach in next reply.
Although as your last post was yesterday here @ 3:52:12 AM, not likely you will be able to recover that particular pop-up. There should have been a couple of vps updates noted since then.

Hey all, this might be an old topic but i tried to follow the advice of the pros here for temporarily disabling avast but i still have a problem.
The situation is like this. I am convinced i have a zero access rootkit attached to my services.exe file because i can't seem to turn on my windows standard firewall nor my Windows Security Centre Service (both say they can't be turned on when i try to do so). Therefore i'm following this website http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-zeroaccess-rootkit/ to try to cleanse my computer. I'm at step 2 using combofix. I've downloaded combofix but it requires me to turn off avast or any antivirus i have running. I've temporarily disabled avast but somehow combo fix still registers avast as being ACTIVE, and therefore i risk damage to my machine/computer if i run combofix while avast is active. But i don't know how to turn off avast any further beyond disabling it as you guys have advised. Can anyone advise or help me with this?
Thank you very much!

hi concreteroze,
I'm really hoping you see my answer here as, as you say, this is a topic long since resolved for the OP. Please do not attempt to use a strong tool such as Combofix on your own without proper training, as explained below.
What is likely to happen is that your query and request for help will seem to fall on deaf ears, so...
- Please take the time to start a brand new thread about your situation and problems you are now experiencing and having.
- Please do not try or attempt to use a tool such as Combofix without the proper training and expertise a trained malware expert has, and will have, to be able to not damage a victim's computer any more than it already is. The goal here should always be to repair any damage done, and clean and restore the computer to the former functional capacity as it was, before a severe infection occurred.
With a zero access infection involving a necessary and critical system file such as services.exe, any wrong move with Combfix can easily destroy an operating system beyond any known means of repair. This could mean you could lose all your personal files if this happened, in the worst case, or suffer damage to third-party programs such as Microsoft Office, if you do not know what you are really removing.
I suggest you leave services.exe alone, ask for the help you need, and let the malware expert helping you guide you through the repair and cleaning process necessary.
Two steps here:
- Post a new topic in viruses and worms using your user name and topic title. You will find this link in the upper right-hand corner under NEW TOPIC. You will only see this link while you are logged in at the forum.
- Please follow this guide: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0)
Get these four programs: AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes, OTL, and aswMBR.exe
Run only these four, and no other programs unless asked to do so by your malware expert. EDIT: Do not try to fix anything; let the malware expert guide you through. As an example; aswMBR.exe has a FIX button. Do not click that unless told to do so.
THEN:
Attach the resulting logs using Attachments and other options in your first or second reply in your new topic. To attach, simply click the link and a browse button will appear; four attachments are allowed per post.
Once that is done, I will notify a malware expert to come in and assist you.

@ concreteroze,
I have taken the liberty of starting a new thread just for you. I hope you do not mind.

For those who ask, "Why would you want to do that?" (or other comments which imply the user is not too bright), keep mind that there ARE legitimate reasons to turn off Avast.
In my case, Avast would not let me copy a file from one location to another. (Details are below).
Right clicking on the icon in the system tray did the trick.
Here's what I did:
- Right clicked on the orange Avast! icon in the Windows System Tray.
This is usually located in the lower right corner of the Windows Taskbar.
I also had to first click on the little up-arrow on the left side of this area to "show hidden icons"
- Clicked on "Avast shields control"
- Clicked on "Disable for 10 minutes"
I was then able to copy the files I needed (including the one which Avast identified as infected).
Note that I was absolutely sure that this file was NOT infected.
Details (including keywords) on why I needed to do this:
Wonderware InTouch installation CD version 9.5 includes a file named HistData.exe
Avast identifies this as an infected file, and WON'T allow it to be copied onto the PCs hard drive, or an attached USB flash drive.
This file is on an original CD, directly from the factory. It's NOT an infected file.
I need to copy files from a CD to a USB flash drive so they can be installed on an industrial PC.
The files

shit happens ..... and sometimes it comes from the factory
one example:

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2012/sep/14/malware-installed-computers-factories-microsoft
more to find if you google
have you tested the file at www.virustotal.com
if FP, you should send the file to avast lab so that the FP detection can be corrected ....
disable your AV is only a temporary solution
