AEA Installation running well, but how with the secondary mirror? how to set the secondary mirror?
Title: Re: Business products v7 release
Post by: spi on June 04, 2012, 08:55:42 AM
I have done install the second mirror and set the computer group update to the secondary mirror server ip address, but the PC can't connect to the second mirror server.

does anybody have experience in secondary mirror using AEA? or this feature was not ready yet.

Unfortuately i havent had time to participate in testing the product
Therefor i might have missed settings from points that i mention below, so please correct me if i am wrong in that.
Keep in mind tho that this software is meant to be for (enterprise) adminsitrators so they should know

I am happy to see that the interface and possibilities are the same again as ADNM used to be, but updated to work better on the newest OS's, and i can use my SBC licence for it.
Thats a HUGE plus point

HOWEVER (yes i have always something to point out)
- On the website i have been looking for the administrator guides for endpoint security enterprise, not to be found
- In the HELP in the program itself i receive the error that the help.chm  file cant be found, and i browsed to the directory mentioned, and indeed no help file is present. I had chosen to install the english help items all.
- It would be nice that TEXT files wont be opened by IE (a browser!) but by its default text file viewer (most cases notepad).
the mirror log is first downlaoded via IE and then automatically opened in notepad (talking about inefficient), while other text logfiles are opened directly in a browser.........
Hypothetical situation:  What if the whole console is targeted by malicious party, where they aim to infect via a browser. They alter the log creation of the console with malicious code in the logfile, it opens in IE or a
browser where the milicious code is executed because its a browser that handles files different from a text viewer. BAM infection

- When (requested since ADNM) will there be a ACTIVE DIRECTORY integration for user access to the console????  this is in an enterprise environment really wanted. Keeping a separate username/password list is very inefficient and hazardous.

This point is truely HORRIBLE again, specially since this was put in SBC correctly on extensive and multiple request.
- THE MIRROR CANT BE PLACED out of the installation directory for the console... for g*dsake people... What do you think of the administrators that handle this software? they are complete retards or something??
IT IS SO NOT DONE TO PLACE USAGE FILES ON THE OS PARTITION OF THE SERVER. THIS PARTITION IS USUALLY A MIRRORED DISK MEANING THIS IS AN EXPANSIVE STORAGE LOCATION, YOU DO NOT STORE FAST CHANGING USER FILES THERE!!!! We have had this discussion already at the beta stage of SBC!!!!
The only solution is to install the complete console on another partion, which in manny policy driven companies is not allowed, so PLEASE give us the ability to manually choose where we want the mirror to be placed!!

(IF this point has been mentioned and actually is adjustable then upfront i apologize for my ranting, but i have been clicking in a lot of places in the console but havent found such option)

edit: i have chosen the expert install, but i must have missed this part then i guess....  ill chekc again

Hello WPN,

This is already implemented in the current installer.
Just select the Expert type of installation.

after my edit, i ran the avast enterprise administration setup again and i have no option to choose for a location to put the mirror files
i have choosen again to do a custom setup

where is this expert setting that you speak of?

edit:
I had left the express database in tact and with installation i had chosen to give the SA account a random password by the installer. During setup i couldnt get back on the excisting database so i had a new one.
now the console cant detect the server to login on (recurring problem from ADNM actually).

edit 2:
-  in the SBC there was a group where you could put computers that should not automaticly get a license (so no AV installed on them), where is this option now
- where can i see how many licenses are in use right now even tho no client is deployed?

Yes, after restart on my first installation also cant detect the server and I must start the service by manual then console can detect the server.

What I facing right now is avast! 7 have BSOD when the PC was installed with NCOMPUTING driver and I have posted on http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=99328.0 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=99328.0) does any body here have the same problem?

Yes.

Well, it didn't happen to me.
I had to manually remove BPP and manually install AVAST Endpoint Protection Suite Plus.
Actually my clients are seen by the new admin console (avast!Enterprise Administration Console) but can't manage them as no agent is installed.
How do I deploy agent?

I've configured an installation package but I got the "Failed(0x00000005) Access denied" error. User and pass are ok.

Any idea?

@dave   the error code does indicate that the username/password is wrong

in the package you can give the username to use for deployment, did you fill it in like this

domain:   domainname
usersname:    domainname\username
password:   passsword

What is your client OS? the client is joint domain or not? or could you access the client by type from run box "\\<ip address or computer name>\c$

my tips if your clients are xp sp3 and not joint domain please go to: Local Security Policy >> Local Policies >> Security Options  then find the "Network Access: Sharing and security model" change it to "Classic -local users authenticate as themselves"

for windows 7 is no issue

@wpn: Yes, I'm an "old" ADNM 4.8 user and remember the issue!  ;)

Just installed a fresh XP VM, installed EAC and deployed the Client installation.
Local folder C:\~AVINSTL creates correclty, but installation failed with Failed(0x00000005).

This is the C:\~AVINSTL\aswISvc.log log:

06/08/12 14:29:36:   InstSvc begin
06/08/12 14:29:36:   avast! Remote Install Service
06/08/12 14:29:36:   Setup CmdLine: "C:\~AVINSTL\setup.exe" /forceinstall /createprogress /sfx /sfxstorage "C:\~AVINSTL"

That's all.

@spi:Client is XP SP3 joined to my domain. I can access the client with \\machine\c$, Windows firewall is shutted down.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dave

Situation Update.
After having rebooted twice and removed the Avast Client Installation from a previous BPP managed Win7 client I once again deployed the installation, checking the "reboot after 30 second" option in order to have a clear signal when the installation would have been finished.

The job on the server keeps telling me "failed(0x00000005)", the client gets installed but the installation is not working properly: I get the "yellow triangle", The Realtime protection isn't activated and the license file isn't recognized.  :'(

Dave

have you check the setup.ini on <application installed>\avast business\setup\setup.ini
make sure FailSafeServer=http://<aes server ip>:16135

in my experience the FailSafeServer=C:\~AVINSTL and can't updated or connected to AES server then can't get any license from aes server
then I change the FailSafeServer to aes server by manually then reboot

hope this also can solve your problem.

If it's yellow then it means "Attention". If your license wouldn't be accepted then it means "Unsecured" (red).
Yellow state means that a shield isn't running - check which one.

I had this issue on Friday.  All shields were started and functional and except Sharepoint, and that server did NOT have Sharepoint, so I am assuming my issue was flagging the Sharepoint shield. I did not get a chance to remove the Sharepoint shield to prove my instinct, however, this server is functioning perfectly!

Metioned on June 7th here:  http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=99350.msg792442#msg792442

Seems like everyone is experiencing that behavior.  Still waiting on an "official" reply to network shields not installed on servers, but I've come to the conclusion that is "normal" and that for whatever reason the sharepoint and exchange sheilds are installing to all servers with the default v7 client whey they did not with the default v6 client - thus those two must be disabled for the "out of box" configuration to not show servers in an "attention" status.

I can't find this setting to relocate the mirror either. In fact, despite selecting custom (within setup_exterprise_epsp.exe: 22,583 KB), there were no options available at all.

I ran this as a clean install on a fresh copy of Server 2003.

I know the AEA mirror will not update without this patch:

Mirror patch for avast Enterprise Administration console (AEA)..

Please do the following:
1 - locate the following file in the installation of AEA - ..mirror\lighttpd\conf\lighttpd-inc.conf
2 - re-name lighttpd-inc.conf to lighttpd-incold.conf just to make a backup file.
3 - copy attached lighttpd-inc.conf file to that location.
4 - restart mirror service.

You have to apply the mirror patch in all the installations until AVAST Software delivers an AEA update.

email me if you need this file.  The system won't let me attach the file.  J.R.

Hi all,
I have a question about migration/upgrade from ADNM to AEA. ADNM is running on Win 2003 now. We are planning to buy new server infrastructure and I would like to upgrade our Avast installation to AEA and migrate it into new environment (Win 2008R2). I was unable to find any information about this.

Thanks

If you are using ADNM now, you already know 90% of ADNM2, and may want to wait for that version to be released with its final patch for the mirror.  It can be installed today, Ed has the URL for the patch, and you will have to apply it.  AEA is the same reliable code from ADNM, with the added features of the avast! 7 net client. There is very little different from the previous version. The only major difference is the combining of Computer Catalog, and Task Management module into the same location (they were separated before). During installation, you are prompted for choice of SQL 2008 R2 Express, or use existing install of SQL. If you have either SQL 2005 or SQL 2008, you can use same instance, but a NEW database will be required, as new modules are supported. Their is no conversion utility for the old database at this time, so you treat it as a new install. Both ADNM and AEA can exist simultaneously. Net client auto uninstalls the existing avast net client vs. 4, and installs new client.  WE will NOT have to touch every machine (we really needed that). After AEA installs, it is recommended to unplug Internet before deploying the new client.  That way you are not online during this moment when there is no A/V protection. The avast! 7 net client does require a reboot after installation (all protection is not immediate upon installation). Each avast! Enterprise Administration Server (old AMS, now AEAS can manage 1000 systems.  However, full SQL is required for the “Replication Service” to support multiple AEAS (to support 1000+ systems) AND again, there is no migration path currently that will use the existing database.

Hello,

I'm having difficulty following all these Acronyms.  :)

ADNM2 is now rebranded to SOA (Small Office Administration). Yes? I thought the "Mirror Patch" related to AEA (Avast Enterprise Administration).

Just to clarify, are you saying there is also an issue with the Mirror within SOA?

Oh, it absolutely does.  I've been waiting for a patch for a couple weeks!  I was told by Avast Support that it was to be fixed/released last week but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Still waiting on the fix.  I have a lot of angry people breathing down my neck right now...

Was this a fresh install, or an install over the top of SBC?  I have quite a few of these installed, and have not seen that issue anywhere.  I am thinking out loud here, OK? I would expect that the bug fix mentioned  by avast! is not for SOA, and is the AEA Mirror issue.  During the avast! reseller meeting,  we discussed all of the bug fixes happening.  SOA mirror was not one of them.  If I were in control of this installation, I would personally remove SOA, aswclear, and reinstall SOA, to prove the theory.

It was new server with a fresh install.  I have a ticket in with the support group but nobody from Avast has responded since 2012-07-06!  My company has replied 3 times since then and they have not said a word.

I've reinstalled the software several times.  I had another thread going but it hasn't seen much traffic lately.  We bounced around some ideas and I submitted logs but nothing has come of it.  I'll do whatever I have to do to get it to work but if I don't act soon, Avast is going to lose a longtime customer.  My supervisor is harping on me to get this done before the business decision is made to give Avast the axe and install something else.

Hi. We are implementing new version of Endpoint Protection Suite and we are having problems with installation on servers. Until now we were using for several years 60 licenses of Avast! Professional Edition and 50 licenses of Avast! Standard Suite because we have 5 servers and 105 workstations. Our servers are Itanium based Windows Server 2003 SP2 and the main reason why we decided to buy Avast Antivirus solution several years ago is because it was the only solution available in our country working on Itanium based servers. We didn't have any problems until now. We installed new database and console on a Windows XP Pro machine where the old database was located and everything went well with distributing new client application via Net client on XP Pro and Win 7 Pro clients but when we tried it on Itanium servers we came to problems. It uninstalls old client application and with some problems installs new client app but services wont start. Do you have any idea what can be a problem? Is it something with Windows Server 2003 or maybe new EPS wont work on Itanium based servers (if that's a case then we are in big problems)?

Post by: lukas.hasik on July 20, 2012, 05:49:16 PM
Hi,
the avast7 wasn't tuned up for the Itanium... The best option for now will be to manage the servers with "old" 4.8 ADNM and leave the 4.8 clients on it. The rest of network can be anaged with new EA and client of v7.
We will have to start up our old Itanium server and tune up the v7 clients.

Thank you

Thank you for your quick response. We already uninstalled old database and old ADNM console because we couldn't make it work together with new database on the same pc. But it won't be a problem, we will install standalone old clients on our five servers and make them update directly through internet from Avast servers until you come to a working version of v7 clients on Itanium servers. Thanks again!

We have another problem with deploying EPS to our client computers with old agents. When we started deployment task from new AEA Console everything went ok only on 35 from 105 clients. On 90 clients we have errors reported and when we try to deploy new client application from console separately on any of those Windows XP computers same error occurs - access denied. We had similar error on first install several years ago but we solved them by deploying .msi installation package via windows server group policies. Problem is that now from AEA Console when we generate setup package we get only .exe file and we can't use it for deploying via GPO's. Is there a way to create or download from somewhere .msi installation package for EPS managed client application?

maybe you can look into login scripts (batch files? vbs files?) which can start running executables at computer startup?  its an awkward way but u could look into it to test.  Having it run with administrative rights ofcourse

This was actually my preferred way to deploy...  Modified a batch file to uninstall components from the previous AV software before launching the .exe installer for Avast!  Used DesktopAuthority to launch the batch file as administrator - worked like a champ.
