Hello, I want to know if Avast Free Antivirus can protect the computer from Virus Flame?.

Yes. You only have to write " Flame " in the search funtion:

There are many topics relating to flame already

You only need to use the forum search function to see that it does, the detections are named Win32:Skywiper-? [trj] were the ? is an alphabetic character.

Also see http://www.avast.com/en-us/virus-update-history (http://www.avast.com/en-us/virus-update-history) use your browsers page search for Win32:Skywiper and have it mark them all and you will see there are many such signatures.
