HELP!!! I got the 80000000, 800000cb, 00000001
« on: August 15, 2012, 06:58:35 AM »
We are off to a great start on an already nasty situation... this is the 2nd time to write this, cause if you don't type the verification letters right it wipes out your entire post!!! Am I really the first person to notice this?  LOL

[Edit, now I'm on a 3rd attempt cause it said it was a duplicate even though I retyped all of it but the subject line... and the first two were never posted.  This is killing me.]

I've had my bank account info scammed I believe through the above listed viruses and a few others that populated my system when the MSSE antivirus app was killed off by a virus, and I just noticed this last night.  It wouldn't reinstall and I just went back to my tried and true AVAST which as found the above listed items (actually there was more, but these keep popping up warnings.  "ding ding ding...  Threat has been detected"

I followed the directions at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Here's my MBAM, and next I'll provide the OTL, but I wanted to get this part posted first in case I run into snags that preclude me from getting the next part posted.

[V2: I've maxed out the file size and had to redo this one too]

Wow you responded faster than I could get the OTL files generated.

I've attached the OTL's and the aswMBR.

I've had a long day at work, and the wife just got home so I probably won't get to respond til tomorrow after work.

I have my network meter and HD meter on, an both are staying busy.  ugh.  what's it doing?  I guess I'll be changing all passwords as soon as I get this fixed.

Again, thank you so much for your help!!!  You guys are modern day heros.  (don't wear tights and capes though)  LOL.

OK lets get at it

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    Quote
    :OTL
    @Alternate Data Stream - 985 bytes -> C:\Users\Kintama\AppData\Local\Tempt9gKoCkpgD5yFXH7irDQCZHm
    @Alternate Data Stream - 1217 bytes -> C:\Users\Kintama\AppData\Local\Temp:H9f9X8AzdU62fa4X
    @Alternate Data Stream - 1020 bytes -> C:\Users\Kintama\AppData\Local\Temp:GBJQuopRLLv2B7oS8GenaRP21qBe

    :Reg
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F3130CDB-AA52-4C3A-AB32-85FFC23AF9C1}\InprocServer32]
    ""="%systemroot%\system32\wbem\wbemess.dll"
    [-HKCU\Software\Classes\clsid\{12d0253a-7c96-815c-11e0-3034bbd97cc0}]

    :Files
    C:\Windows\Installer\{a13c0369-a0db-4335-9bc6-c73b919c1da5}
    C:\Users\Kintama\AppData\Local\{a13c0369-a0db-4335-9bc6-c73b919c1da5}
    ipconfig /flushdns /c
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt  /c
    ipconfig /release /c
    ipconfig /renew /c

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
    [Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.
THEN

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.[/b]
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

3.  If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

FINALLY

Right click the link below and select "Save Target As..." to you desktop
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/bits.reg
Double click the reg file and allow to merge
Reboot and try windows updates

Here is the quick scan.  I did save that doc that OTL had upon rebooting after I ran your copy/pasted script... If you need that I can upload that too.  I did notice at the top of that .txt it says...

All processes killed
========== OTL ==========
Unable to delete ADS C:\Users\Kintama\AppData\Local\Tempt9gKoCkpgD5yFXH7irDQCZHm .

there were 2 other things it did delete, but that one it didn't.  In case that is a concern.  Like I said, I can upload if you need it. I wasn't sure if it was a file I SHOULDN"T upload cause it might have something in it that I don't want publicly posted.

I will do the ComboFix part of the process next and return with that txt file.  Just in case something fails I'm posting these .txt files at each step.  While my system is already behaving a little better without throwing the 80000000 alerts, I can see that my desktop was altered prior to running OTL... tool bars are gone, I can't view the file extensions, and the icons are mondo size.

Onward to COMBOFIX.... bbiab.

Thanks again,
James

Ok Here's the ComboFixReport.

My network meter shows minimal activity now, the HD is not running non stop, but is still doing a little in the background.. maybe cause of avast.

One thing to note:  I followed the directions and shut off all the shields in Avast, but I wasn't sure how long was required so I said "shut off until next reboot"... had I known ComboFix would reboot and keep running, I'd have said to shut down for an hour.  So I don't know if this will mess up the combofix report, so just letting you know.

I found an infected file last night when I ran AVAST... it was a DroidRazorRoot.zip file (don't quote me on the name), but 6 weeks ago I rooted my phone and had tried a few different approaches til I got one that worked.  Apparently one was shady, or maybe the author didn't know he was infected.

I have to say thank you once again.  I will go through my other PC's on the network.  Do I need to be concerned about the PS3 that is on the network? I have also had my Xbox on it once since I've had that droid root file.  I just don't want to see this damn virus has moved somewhere and waiting to pounce again.

THANK YOUUUUUU for the help!!!!!!

James

Did you merge the Bits.reg file ?

This generally does not jump on the network, it usually sticks to one computer

How are things now any further problems ?

No I forgot about the bits.txt.  I just tried to run it but its a text file.  It says it can be double clicked to run, but didn't.  I'll have to reread that portion of the instructions to see what I did wrong to download it as a text file.

It does download with a .txt extension but chopping that off, it worked.  It ran and I rebooted.  I can't tell a difference though cause I ahd already manually reloaded my taskbar folders.

It's been running well.  Avast takes much longer to let the machine boot than MSSE did, but then again, MSSE was defeated to get me into this bind to begin with, so I won't complain about the slow booting.

The network activity has slowed way down.  My drive stays moderately busy, but not nonstop busy.  Its nearly full so it might just be trying to manage what little space it has.  I've procrastinated installing the drive I have already purchased for it LOL... now that its clear I will do that here soon.

SO yah, it's back to normal feeling again. Everything is snappy.  I'd say its a little more snappy in fact.

Thank you so much for the help.  This whole thing as made me rethink my virus software and networking hardware.  I'll be doing some upgrades (though in this case the problem  started with me downloading a zip to root my phone and that unleashed this mess to begin with and no firewall would stop that)... but still I need to beef things up.

I feel better having AVAST on my system than MS trying to protect it.  I mean if MS could protect it, in the OS they wouldn't offer another layer of protection right?  At the time of install it rated well, but no longer does and my gut instinct should have been listened to, to begin with.

Again, thanks.

Drive C: | 97.65 Gb Total Space | 4.68 Gb Free Space | 4.79% Space Free | Partition Type: NTFS

As you say drive space is a little tight...  You will need at least 10% for defrag to function properly, and you files are probably scattered all over the disc

Subject to no further problems   :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset  System Restore points:

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
    Quote
    :Commands
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
Remove ComboFix

  • Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
  • In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall (Notice the space between the "x" and "/") then click OK

  • Follow the prompts on the screen
  • A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled
Run OTL and hit the cleanup button.  It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Go to control panel
  • Select folder options (Appearance > Folder options in category view)
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application.

 Upgrading Java:
  • Go to this site  and click Do I have Java
  • It will check your current version and then offer to update to the latest version
SPRING CLEAN

To manually create a new Restore Point

  • Go to Control Panel and select System
  • Select System
  • On the left select System Protection and accept the warning if you get one
  • Select System Protection Tab
  • Select Create at the bottom
  • Type in a name i.e. Clean
  • Select Create
Now we can purge the infected ones
  • GoStart > All programs > Accessories > system tools
  • Right click Disc cleanup and select run as administrator
  • Select Your main drive and accept the warning if you get one
  • For a few moments the system will make some calculations
  • Select the More Options tab
  • In the System Restore and Shadow Backups select Clean up
  • Select Delete on the pop up
  • Select OK
  • Select Delete
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Malwarebytes.  Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide  How did I get infected in the first place ?

Keep safe
