Is it bad to leave your computer on and idling all the time?
« on: February 15, 2013, 05:13:52 AM »
I have a laptop plugged into an external monitor and don't like having to open/close it every time I want to turn it on.  Is it okay to leave it on always?

Well, no. because the battery may become overcharged thus shortening is life assuming the battery is not removed.

Also, laptops have less efficient ventilation so may want to put it in sleep mode if you're not using it.

Only thing is take care that you do not miss out on critical OS and 3rd party software updates. Well in the old days you had to protect your screen, but modern technology took care of that problem. No need for screen savers now. Take care your laptop is being cleansed of dust (heat sink) on a regular basis (every couple of months) so your laptop will have a definitely longer life circle while you spend a couple of bucks on maintanance,
