Issues with Avast 8.0.1482 anyone?
« on: March 21, 2013, 04:15:18 PM »
So I've had the program updated as it suggested, though I'm not really fond of the new interface (doesn't matter really as long as it works like it always has). I've been using Avast for years, I think since version 6 or early 7. Some problems I've seen and I'm wondering if any of you have it?

First is my free subscription, I've registered already but every day it gives me a red pop-up telling my I need to register? In version 7, virus definition updates every single day, since version 8 my latest definition is from 7th of March? It's the 21st now. I've got no new definition updates for the last 2 weeks. If I have to register for a free subscription everyday when i still have 358 days left just so I can update my definition, I might have to look for a different A/V or revert to 7. I've searched options and stuff but haven't found anything.

Oh and the new "Program/Software update" for my other programs, it's really useless for Avast to have that. Had that disabled, but searching for other programs to see if it needs update but not virus definition?

Well avast 8.0.1482 isn't the latest version of avast and there were some fixes in avast 8.0.1483, so the first thing that you should do is to get the latest version of avast.

Given that you have had update problems, it might well be best to do a clean install of avast 8.0.1483:
- Download the latest version of avast, 8.0.1483 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn't save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).
  • 1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can't do that (as appears to be the case) start from the next step), reboot.
  • 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 7.x if previously installed and then for 8.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  • 3. install the latest version, reboot.
