Thanks Bob for the reply.

You're right, I checked it, unfortunately Avast Free has not a firewall aboard.

Best regards, Hermie

You're welcome. Just use the one that comes with Windows Vista.

Since I use the free version, my choice is simple, the one that comes with the OS.
If you're using avast! Internet Suit, you've paid for a firewall among other nice features so why not use it. :)

Avast Pro does not have a firewall, you would need AIS for the avast firewall.

Hi,
I do have AIS as it happens i don't know why i call it pro!! .Back to the Walls what is the result if you leave them both up? do they conflict and end up not do'ing as good a protection job as one on it's own.

There has always been a simple rule:
1 Resident AV
1 Firewall

Zone alarm and Comodo have the best free firewalls in my opinion. :) Comodo is great but it annoys me because it blocks everything but zone alarm learns which programs to let through. I'm using Zone Alarm. I like it.

It depends on how you set it up. I use CFW with absolutely no problems.
Dell Inspiron, Win10x64--HP Envy Win10x64--Both systems Avast Free v17.9.2322, Comodo Firewall v8.2 w/D+, MalwareBytes v3.0, OpenDNS, Super Anti-Spyware, Spyware Blaster, MCShield, Unchecky, Vivaldi Browser and, various browser security tools.
