Viruses and Worms work very much the same way, but with one small difference. Viruses insert themselves into files and infect them, and Worms Replace files with ones of their own. but other than that, there isn't much of a difference between the two.

Where does a trojan fit into the picture?

A Trojan is Program used by hackers to steal important info, passwords, etc., or to take control of your computer and use it to attack others.

That is:
- virus infects files (and spreads this way)
- worm just spreads its own files, usually by sending itself by e-mail
- trojan horse doesn't spread - it just sits on one place, doing bad things

But in real life, it's often hard to distinguish the parituclar "viruses" exactly - they often possess all three "behaviors".

well, to be honest, i'm more afraid of a destructive virus (file deleter) than a trojan.

A trojan has to pass my firewall ( and Trojan guard) first before it can due any harm. Also it's mostly easier to heal (just delete file) than a nasty virus.

If you on the other hand don't realise there's a trojan running, your pc could be used as a server for Warez or hard porn  :) You don't want that !

So I believe in layered defence > AV & AT & firewall & spywarekiller.
