IE 10 (not responding)

most likely add on incompatibilities but got to where it would not even load so I ran a script, removed and reinstalled
got a message that (and some others including a google privacy app)  Avast onlnie whatever is not compatible with advanced protection mode
so does avast recommend advanced protection mode or not?
advanced protection mode is currently disabled

The only warning I received had to do with the Google Toolbar. No problem with avast! ???

Avast's browser protection module does not function with the advance protection mode enabled.

Personally I'd use the avast protection module and untick the advanced protection, I'm fairly sure that the advanced protection only relates to some protection feature between the IE Modern/Metro browser and Apps.

Hopefully avast are looking into making it compatible with the Advanced Protection Mode as it is going to be enabled by default once IE11 is released.

Enhanced protection mode locks IE down fairly tight

All the more reason avast needs to make there Browser Protection Module compatible then as really neither should be disabled after reading that, in the mean time though until there is compatibility do you think The browser Protection Module is the best option Martin?

Of the two I would probably go for the Enhanced mode if I was using social networking sites, as it will not allow flash to run, unless you select to allow it on a per run basis

But as I do not use those sites then I am happy with the Avast protection :)

I just tested it and flash from youtube isn't blocked, is it only social networking sites that flash is disabled as I don't use those either ???

Maybe my firewall ( Outpost )l might be preventing it from asking for permission as I have it set to block Scripting ActiveX

I'm running avast! 8.0.1492 and it also doesn't cure the problem.
Enhanced Protection Mode also kills other items like:
The Google Toolbar, Classic Explorer Bar (If you're using ClassicShell)

however driver I have is the latest and r&r does not change anything
no crashes since refusing to let Adobe Flash install
have not tried yesterdays flash update
do not need flash ads anyway
unfortunately do need Java
Firefox and Chrome seem unaffected
Wife using Chrome
