No sound
« on: December 20, 2013, 11:55:03 AM »
Hi
When I opened my audio player ( Foobar )... Avast found viaudio.sys infected. I know it's not infected. I went to virus chest and restored the file. Now...I have no sound on my computer.
In control panel the sound and audio devices shows I have no audio device. In Device Manager, under device status it says " windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information ( in the registry ) is incomplete or damaged. ( code 19 )."
Can you please tell me what to do...How do I get my sound back?

I can't find viaudio.sys anymore in Windows\System32\drivers. After I restored it I restarted my computer...I don't know what happened.
Can I reinstall it? How do I do that?

Ok I reinstalled my sound driver and got again the same alert.
Here is the picture with the malware and the link from virustotal

Virustotal :https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/68480452c6d1d8e05a0b9f0e6cc14adfa10d0850add6e93d94d94f6609a6b22b/analysis/1387542190/

I have foobar and avast for a long time and never had problems. What should I do?

report it to avast lab as possible False Positive

You can upload files and report issues to avast  here : http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php  (select subject according to Your case)

You can use mail
send to virus@avast.com in a password protected zip file
mail subject:  False Positive / undetected sample (select subject according to your case)
zip password:  infected

or you can send files from avast chest
how to use the chest.    http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB21

I'm sorry I forgot about viaudios log :  https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/8d210564079dca280b2d99f4e4278cc87b308ca65504c2d5c99a8902f51fee9e/analysis/1387544031/

Only avast finds it as a malware.
Ok I will do that

Thank you for your help !

I have one more question please...I'm using avast 7 because I have an old PC
I have Intel Celeron 2.4
Windows Xp Sp2 and 768 memory

Can I put Avast 9? will it run on my computer? Because I keep reintalling the sound drive and after restart avast blocks it no matter what I do.

if you have a little patient.... may take some hours
if you uploaded the file to avast lab, they will correct the detection
