Avast 2014 memory leak
« on: November 27, 2013, 10:30:56 PM »
Nasty memory leak after upgrading to 2014. Eats up gigabytes of paged modified memory.
OS is win 8.1. Avast version 2014.9.0.2008

Poolmon reports SnxN:

Looked for that in drivers - aswSnx.sys, which is apparently an avast component.

Thanks for your report. I'm not able to track where those SnxN blocks come from...
Can you please post a screenshot of "poolmon -iSnx?" command?
Or even better: can you please download http://public.avast.com/~kurtin/osrbang.exe (x86) or http://public.avast.com/~kurtin/osrbang_x64.exe (x64), crash your system and upload compressed \Windows\memory.dmp (rar/7z) somewhere? (our ftp instructions: https://support3.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=18)

Thanks!

Got it again but failed to make a memory dump due to some windows configs. Trying to catch it again. It's pretty random so might take a while.

I have the same issue.  Tag Snxn which using findstr shows as awSnx.sys is eating up the all of my computers memory (8GB).  Doesn't happen right away but after about an hour it starts.

Attached is the systems dxdiag for specs.

dxdiag won't help here, you need to configure your system to create a kernel memory dump (instead minidump: Control Panel / System) and then when you observe leaking memory, create a memory dump (see post #2)

Just from looking at poolmon for a while SnxN just steadily grows larger and doesn't free up any ram allocated to it.  I'll post the memory.dmp later today once it consumes the majority of the RAM again.

You don't need to wait so long -- when it consumes several MBs, you can create the dump.

I'm also having the same issue, I uploaded my Kernel memory dump to the ftp, the .rar is called "cblack10 Kernal Memory Dump 12-14-13" in the /incoming folder (I'm not sure how to/if I can link it directly)
Hopefully you can help!

I have the memory.dmp  pm me for the link.  For some reason I can't send you a pm through the forums so if I can email you the link that would be fine to.  I won't be posting it here due to the fact that memory.dmp files contain security information.

I uninstalled Avast and it went away.  Guess I'll need to wait a few versions before using avast on that computer again
