Aswell very much stuck on aswrvrt.sys
« on: February 16, 2014, 10:54:56 AM »
I have a similar problem as the persons mentioned above, after downloading a file yesterday I got for some reason corrupted and my windows firewall and avast antivirus were disabled after I was forced to reboot the system due to hanging and not respinding anymore. Since then I cannot get my computer to start up at all again (been able to boot once succesfully but was responding to anything and it took two and a half hours). In the meantime there was a chckdsk performed on the HDD that the file was downloaded to (what is not the same HDD as where my OS and avast is installed on). And it tried to boot itself again, all I see is the windows 7 startup screen with the collorfull flag.
Im able to acces the choices to boot in safemode, what I tried aswell but there it fails to boot and hangs on aswrvrt.sys. Im not able to do anything with that PC at the moment.
After some googeling I came up to here and hope to can get some help pls.
Further more im not much of a wizzkid but I can follow directions very well :)

Download the following three programmes to your desktop :

1.  Rufus

For 64bit systems
2.  Windows 7 64bit RC I will PM the download link
3.  Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64

Insert the USB stick Then run Rufus

Select the ISO file on the desktop via the ISO icon.

Press Start Burn

Then copy FRST to the same USB

Insert the USB into the sick computer and start the computer.  First ensuring that the system is set to boot from USB
Note: If you are not sure how to do that follow the instructions Here

When you reboot you will  see this although yours will say windows 7.
 Click repair my computer

Select your operating system

Select Command prompt

At the command prompt type the following  :

notepad and press Enter
The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open
Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst64.exe and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

This is getting frustrating already, for some reason my PC is not willing to boot from either USb or DVD-ROM. I tried to change all kind of setting in my BIOS and everything there seems that it should boot from all kind of sources and lastly my HDD, but it will not pick it up.
I tried to test the CD-ROM and the USB stick on my laptop and there it does work to boot from.
I do get some msg when I try to boot tough, a normla windows startup, if I choose this it tries to boot, it hangs on the flag again and after some time it says a HDD is corrupted and needs checking. It starts to check and keeps hanging on 3% after starting.
Or I can choose a sort of repair startup, where it will boot to a very nice blue screen with some decorations in the background.
But so far for some stupid reason I cant seem to find out why my PC wont boot from CD or USB.
Ill keep looking to hopefully find a solution to that, if someone might have an idea pls let me know.

This does not sound to good

When you select the repair option is there a further option that allows you to go to command prompt ?

No nothing sadly, it boots to the blue screen with some clorly twirly background lines when I select that option and then nothing happens. i do get a mousecursor that will move when I use the mouse, but there is nothing I can click to see at all.
All I can think about now is disconnecting the 2nd HDD that it is trying to check and see what happens then.
I did find out now that my mainboard is an INTEL DP35DP, and that should be able to boot from USB and from CD-ROM so or im a complete idiot or im overlooking something seriously in the BIOS settings.

After disconnecting the 2nd HDD my system seems to work normally now. Does it means that HDD is just fried? But even if it is, it's still weird that it wont boot at all then when that HDD is connected, and even weirder in my opinion that the entire systems just fails to boot from CD-ROM or USB at all.
How do I know now that my system isn't infected (it could be very well that this HDD is getting corrupt as well ofcourse).

I have come across this before where a second hard drive for no apparent reason stops the system from booting

Generally this is either a driver problem or a hardware problem as opposed to malware

It all started after a failed download of a file onthat hdd. I understand this is maybe not the place to ask for further help but can you maybe pinpoint me in adirection or forum where I can ask further how to get this hdd back working?

Much apreciated.

You could try putting the drive in a USB caddy and then run a chkdsk scan on it from there
