Hi, Avast emergency update stopped my internet from working (on all browsers). I phoned my internet service provider and they checked, and everything was working: I tried other devices (that don't use Avast, one tablet, one laptop), and they work fine. This has occurred with version 2014.9.0.2008 on my Windows 8 laptop. Why has this occurred? Is it because the emergency update was unsuccessful? PS, the repair function seemed to have applied the emergency update.

Well the Avast emergency update as its name implies only effects avast elements, it shouldn't do anything to your internet connection. Otherwise I think we would be seeing much more posts about it.

If it changed something in avast, then it is possible that your firewall (which is ?) could block avast and subsequently http connections to the internet. You can try connecting to an https connection as avast doesn't monitor https (secure encrypted) traffic. Does that work ?

You could also try stopping the web shield and see if you can connect.

However, all that said you have an old version of avast 9.0.2008 was a very early avast 9 version, released on 2013-11-11. The latest avast version, released today is avast 9.0.2016. So I would suggest you update to that, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=147778.0 for more information.
